All-Party Parliamentary Group witnesses AI in action

London, 4 March 2019 – Members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence (APPG AI) were at Atos UK and Ireland headquarters today to witness first-hand how AI technology is helping deliver solutions for some of society’s key challenges.

The five parliamentarians, including APPG AI co-chairs Stephen Metcalfe MP and Lord Clement-Jones, heard from Atos experts and were given a tour of state-of-the-art facilities including the AI Lab, London – the first of three Labs in Europe and North America dedicated to delivering easy-access for organisations to drive enterprise transformation and opportunity through AI technology. Case studies shared included how AI is helping to predict hospital patient discharge times and supporting a police force by predicting crime hotspots.

Stephen Metcalfe MP and APPG on AI co-chair said: “Seeing real-world examples of how AI can deliver real change is greatly encouraging, particularly given our ambition to see the UK’s global competitiveness as a leader in developing AI technologies and capitalising on their benefits. We champion the deployment of AI across government and industry to release the full economic potential of the UK and welcome the role of companies like Atos who are applying AI solutions to help make this a reality.”

Kulveer Ranger, Senior Vice President Strategy and Communications, Atos UK&I, said: “We recognise the importance of sharing the potential and current application of AI technology, and to demonstrate how we are working in partnership with other organisations who will design and deliver future AI driven services.

AI is fast becoming a critical enabler in providing innovative services and products across the public and private sectors, and we were delighted to share specific current examples with members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on AI.”

AI is at the centre of the UK’s digital tech sector and offers the UK economy an opportunity worth 10 per cent of GDP by 20301. The Atos Digital Vision for AI opinion paper explores how enterprises are using AI and what’s ahead for organisations and society.
