Environment

Atos is committed to the most demanding 1.5ºC Science-based Target

Atos is fully aware of its responsibility to the planet and strives to be an environmental pioneer in the digital sector

Atos commits to net-zero greenhouse gases emissions by 2039 at latest. A date which is 11 years ahead of the ambitious aim of the UN Paris Agreement on Climate Change to limit the global warming of the planet to 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels.

Conscious of the role we can play, Atos initiated a pioneering and ambitious environmental program 12 years ago. Based on policies (notably the environmental policy), processes, guidelines and action plans underpinned by the Environmental Management System (EMS), Atos is organized to achieve the emission reductions and energy efficiency needed to fight climate change.

  • Atos total CO2e emissions in 2022 have decreased by -23.8% compared to 2019, trend that is in line with its long-term reduction objective.
  • Further, in 2022 Atos has offset once again 100% of the GHG emissions of its full Scopes 1, 2 and category 6 of Scope 3.
  • The energy consumption of Atos datacenters and offices in 2022 resulted in a drop of -8% compared to 2021 and a drop of -32% since 2019.
  • In 2022, 59% of the electricity consumed by Atos worldwide came from renewable sources, compared to 32% in 2019. Atos mid-term ambition is to consume 100% renewable and decarbonized electricity.
  • 88% of Atos’ main data centers and offices were ISO 14001 certified or in the process of being certified at the end of 2022.

Our environmental journey

Our environmental program is focused on reducing the environmental impacts of our activities based on environmental awareness and empowerment of our employees. With a solid plan addressing Atos material challenge, especially reducing carbon emissions, reducing & optimizing energy/travel, and if relevant, developing Green IT and IT for Green offers, the Atos Environmental Program has significantly reduced our carbon footprint, meeting the most demanding scientific objectives of the Science-Based Target initiative (SBTi) to keep global warming at 1.5 °C.

Our near- and long-term emissions reduction targets and our net-zero target align or exceed the new SBTi Net-Zero Standard criteria disclosed at the end of 2021.
