Application Process – How to launch your digital journey

Application forms

You need to take the time to consider why you want a particular role

Before you complete and submit your application form, it’s essential to thoroughly research both the role and our organisation. While this may seem time-consuming, targeted applications are far more effective than sending out numerous generic ones. Take the time to understand why you’re interested in a specific role and provide evidence to support your motivation.

When detailing your extracurricular activities, honesty is key. For example, if you played a sport but weren’t the team captain, that’s perfectly acceptable – not every role requires leadership experience.
If the online application form lacks a spellchecker, copy your text into a document that does and print it out for a final review. Reviewing a printed copy can be easier on the eyes than reading on a screen. Additionally, having someone else proofread your application can provide valuable feedback.

Online tests

Read each question thoroughly, and be as accurate as possible

If you’re asked to take an online test, it’s important to find out how long you’ll have to complete it. Many organisations use third-party providers for their tests, and these often come with hints, tips, and practice tests. Make the most of these resources – even if the test is slightly different, it helps you get comfortable with online testing.

The Atos test, for example, includes practice questions to help you familiarise yourself with the format. When you’re ready to take the test, ensure you’re in a quiet environment where you can concentrate. Read each question carefully and answer as accurately as possible. If the test is timed, monitor the time you have left. If practice tests aren’t available, ask the recruiter about preparation tips. Always inform the recruitment team if you require any adjustments to take the test, and we will ensure your needs are accommodated.

Video Interview

Try and construct your answers well and speak slowly enough that you can be heard

The video interview will last around 30 minutes, and you should prepare for it just as you would for a face-to-face interview. If this is your first video interview, don’t worry – the platform is user-friendly. Allow yourself 45 minutes, use a computer with a reliable internet connection, and ensure you’re in a quiet space. You can take the interview at any time and place that suits you, but choose a location where you won’t be disturbed.

Prepare to discuss your motivations, competencies, and strengths. Think ahead about examples from your academic, work, and extracurricular experiences that demonstrate your suitability for the role. If you mention a mistake, explain how you resolved it and what you learned. Employers value clear communication, so construct your answers thoughtfully and speak clearly. If you encounter any technical issues during the interview or need any adjustments for this stage of the assessment, please inform the recruitment team, and we’ll accommodate your needs.

Assessments

Be prepared to go into detail about your education and motivations’

Like many other graduate and intern recruiters, the final stage of our selection process is an assessment centre. Throughout the day, you’ll participate in various exercises, including one-to-one competency-based interviews, an individual case study, and a group exercise. These activities will provide you with real insight into life on our Graduate Programme. Refer to our hints and tips from the telephone interview section, but remember, you’ll be speaking with managers from your chosen area, so be prepared to discuss your education, experience, and motivations in detail.

Our assessment centres have a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, though the exercises are challenging, and you’ll need to perform at a high standard to receive an offer. Always check basic details to ensure you arrive on time and are appropriately dressed. Be mindful of your presentation: while nerves are normal and won’t be penalised, appearing disengaged can make it difficult to leave a positive impression.

Wherever you want to go in your career, we’ll help you get there

The answers you need

If you can’t find the answers to your questions, please contact our graduate recruitment team directly at recruitment@atos.net.

What are we looking for?

For our Graduate Programme, you will need to have a degree, and be able to provide your certificate of completion, showing your grading.

Beyond academic results, we look for a number of important qualities in all our graduates:

Good all-rounders

As well as a desire for business exposure and responsibility, you’ll have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be a great team player and preferably have previous customer-facing experience.

A proactive, flexible approach

You’ll need a friendly personality, plenty of initiative and a pragmatic approach. You’ll also be good at building relationships and bring high levels of commercial awareness and motivation. While some of our graduate roles offer a fixed office location, others can involve hybrid working, or working at different locations around the UK, so you should be flexible about where you can work.

Commitment to delivering

It’s crucial that you share our determination to deliver what’s been promised – on time, within budget and to agreed standards.

Strong business motivation

This is a large and complex corporate environment, so it’s important that you appreciate everything that’s necessary to operate here, with a key commitment to creating customer satisfaction by making things happen.

Communication skills

The ability to communicate clearly and persuasively is a must, as is willingness to seek feedback, listen and understand other viewpoints.

Digital awareness

You’ll have a keen understanding of what digital means for businesses – and confidence in your ability to credibly deliver digital solutions to our clients.

Innovation

You’ll be the kind of person who continuously seeks to improve your personal skills. You’ll seize opportunities to challenge yourself and take the lead on your own professional development and growth.

What is the closing date for applications?

For our application closing dates, please visit our Apply page. We encourage you to apply early, as our popular schemes fill up fast. We start our assessment centres as early as October, and may start to fill roles before the closing date.

What does the recruitment process involve?

There are four steps. Our application hints & tips page contains useful information to help you improve your performance and chances of success at each stage:

1. Online application

To get started, you’ll need to fill in the online application form.

We’ll ask you to answer two motivational questions in detail, to demonstrate your skills and experiences, and explain how your own values relate to ours. You’ll also need to indicate what has motivated you to apply to Atos and demonstrate your commercial understanding of the digital industry, including explaining the impact of a recent digital issue in the IT industry.

Bear in mind that our recruitment team will review the content of these answers very carefully, so this is where you should focus your efforts when preparing the application form. You might want to ask a friend to ‘sense check’ the form once you’ve finished, to make sure you’ve answered the questions in full with no spelling or grammar mistakes. Before you submit, you’ll be asked to complete a questionnaire on your working style preferences. Be honest with your answers – we need to make sure that if you join us, you’ll be successful and enjoy what you’re doing. If you’re made an offer, we’ll use the information gathered here to get to know how you work and which role might be best suited to you.

When we receive your application form, we’ll acknowledge your application and let you know the next steps. We’ll then assess your form as quickly as possible.

2. Online testing

All applicants to our graduate programme are required to undertake an online test, which includes numerical and verbal reasoning testing as well as a personality profile. You’ll be able to complete the test either on your laptop or a mobile device. It takes about an hour. If you’re not able to complete a test by the date given, please let the recruitment team know and we should be able to give you an extension, although in some circumstances this may affect our ability to progress your application – if, for example, the assessment centre for your scheme is taking place fairly soon. If you require any additional support (for example, due to dyslexia, or accessibility issues), we’ll make sure we can accommodate you. Just let us know what you’ll need.

3. Video interview

In your video interview we’ll focus heavily on your skills through a series of competency-based questions, as well as asking you about your motivations for choosing Atos and making sure we’re considering you for the most suitable role. The video interview will last around 30 minutes and you should prepare for it in exactly the same way as a face-to-face interview. Don’t worry if you’ve never done this before – it’s an easy-to-use platform and our recruitment team will be on hand to help with any queries or technical issues.

4. Assessment Centre

Finally, there’s a full-day Assessment Centre, where you’ll get to meet a number of our hiring managers. During the day you’ll complete several exercises, including one-to-one competency-based interviews, an individual case study and a group exercise, which will give you real insight into life on our graduate programme. You’ll also get to meet a current graduate who’ll discuss their experience on the programme and answer any questions you may have. Whether you join us or not, we believe you should have a positive experience on the day, and our post-assessment centre feedback session will give you a good insight into your performance, as well as personal development suggestions for the future.

Will I be able to travel abroad?

We’re specifically recruiting for positions in the UK, and expect applicants to be prepared to work here for a number of years. However, we are a global company and opportunities for working abroad do arise sometimes. Some parts of the business have more opportunities to work abroad than others, but we can’t guarantee the chance to do so.

When will I start?

Start dates vary according to which part of the business you join. Generally our intake dates are in June, and September to November, although it can be possible to start earlier. Your starting date will take your personal preference into account wherever possible.

What’s your equality and diversity policy?

We’re 100% committed to being an inclusive employer. All employees at Atos take personal responsibility for inclusivity which not only underpins our business decisions, but is essential to our growth ambitions. We believe that how we attract, hire and support every individual at Atos – in the spirit of togetherness – will be what truly makes us a great and exciting place to work.

The Atos Diversity Networks support our goals by recognising, developing and raising awareness around diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Click here for further information about our diversity networks.

Are all applications online?

Yes, please apply online. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we have to manage all applications in one place and so can’t accept paper applications or CVs. Let us know if you’re having problems applying due to a disability, and we’ll ensure that you’re able to complete your application.

What is the salary and benefits package?

Please see the benefits page for full details of our reward package.

Do you pay relocation expenses?

We reimburse reasonable relocation expenses, which need to be approved upfront by your future line manager and supported by receipts.

Can I state a preferred location?

We recruit for roles across a range of locations and will take your preferences on board. You’ll need to be flexible as some roles may require you to be away from your base location for extended periods at customers’ sites. For other roles you’ll spend more time at your base location, but you should still be prepared to work away on occasions.

What training do you provide?

All graduates attend our immersive residential induction programme, with continuous learning and training appropriate to your role throughout the 18-month programme. Read more about our training and development here.

Can I still apply if I don’t have a degree?

You do need to have completed an undergraduate degree to join our Graduate Programme. If you’ve completed school or college, or started at university but decided it isn’t for you, and you’re looking for your first career opportunity, you could be suited to our Apprenticeship Programme.

Where can I discover more about opportunities for experienced professionals?

You’ll find information regarding all opportunities outside graduate recruitment on our careers page.

Do you accept speculative applications?

We don’t accept speculative applications for our graduate opportunities. But you can register your interest in future graduate opportunities, or apply directly.

Do you accept applications from non-UK graduates?

We welcome applications from any candidate, regardless of background or country of study, in accordance with our equal opportunities policy. Please be advised that Atos do not offer visa sponsorship, so you do need to have the right to work in the UK. Please also note that some of our roles may require you to have indefinite leave to remain in the UK, and to have been a resident in the UK for at least five years. If you’re likely to receive an offer but unable to meet these criteria, we’ll do our best to find you another role on our graduate scheme.

You can find out more at https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration.
