Atos team wins Prince’s Trust Million Makers challenge

London, 22 March 2012

Atos, an international IT services company, was today announced as the winner of The Prince’s Trust Million Makers challenge, raising a record-breaking £120,000 for the youth charity.

The competition, which was first launched in 2008, sees over 100 organisations from across the UK compete to raise at least £10,000 each, over a six month period from an initial funding of £1,500. All profits go to youth charity The Prince’s Trust, which helps 50,000 disadvantaged young people each year, giving them the skills and confidence to find a job. Last year more than three in four young people supported by The Trust moved into work, education or training – despite the tough economic climate.

The Atos team, who smashed the fundraising target by raising £123,799.64, were crowned 2011 National Champions by Levi Roots, founder of Reggae Reggae Sauce, at a Million Makers awards ceremony held in London last week.

This figure is the highest amount ever raised by any company in the Million Makers Challenge, and is double the amount raised by second place team, and last year’s winner. In total, the Million Makers challenge raised more than £1 million for The Prince’s Trust.

Over the six months of the competition, the core Atos team managed a number of projects, supported by fellow employees, including their ‘Sporting Chance’ charity dinner and auction at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

James Hammersley, Project Lead, Atos, said: “It has been a real honour raising funds for The Prince’s Trust and I’d like to say how pleased I am with the team for achieving such an outstanding result. More importantly it’s not about the winning, it is about how our funds will go towards helping the lives of so many young people. Although it’s been a challenge, it has helped to forge new relationships across our organisation.”

Ursula Morgenstern, CEO, Atos UK and Ireland said: “I am extremely proud that our company has been able to make such a huge contribution to The Prince’s Trust, and the young people it touches across the UK. The team did a fantastic job and were totally committed to the competition. Our involvement in the Million Makers Challenge supports our Well Being at Work initiative, where we are constantly thinking of new and innovative ways which encourage our staff to develop and enhance their career with us.”

Julian Barrell, director of fundraising, The Prince’s Trust said: “The Atos team has shown an impressive amount of creativity and commitment to raise more than £120,000 for The Prince’s Trust. With youth unemployment at a record high, this money will make a huge difference to young lives across the UK.”

“From as little as £1,000, we can put an unemployed young person through an intensive personal development course, helping them leave behind the dole queue for good.”

The Atos Well Being at Work covers all aspects of the future workplace, from implementing efficiency through management processes, delivering specific tools for remote working, and covering training, talent management as well as enabling new levels of collaboration and flexible working.
