“bullion, high-end x86 server from Bull, beats worldwide records”

Offering customers worldwide exceptional performance suited for the most critical applications

The bullion servers from Bull, the Atos brand for technology products and software, beat yet again performance records, according to the international benchmark from Standard Performance Evaluation Cooperative (SPEC)*. Performed with a 16-socket configuration, this benchmark demonstrates that the high-end enterprise bullion x86 servers perform at exceptional levels and are the most powerful in the world in terms of speed and memory.

Used by over 100 million end-users worldwide

Bull Bullion Server

Bullion is widely deployed in many businesses and governments, mainly in Europe, Africa and Brazil. Atos recently signed a six-year contract with Siemens, Europe’s largest engineering company, to provide a platform running in the cloud and built on the SAP HANA® platform for data services to meet Siemens’ growing business demands. The platform – based on bullion, the enterprise high-end x86 server from Bull – will be deployed on a worldwide basis to support more than 100,000 Siemens personnel across the whole Siemens Group. Another customer is one of the largest telecommunication companies in South America who acts in an extremely dynamic and aggressive market that chose bullion servers for their billing services. This operator realized a significant power increase, a top notch quality of service level and 30% energy savings.

Features bullion x86 offers:

  • An exceptional memory capacity, up to 24 TB (terabytes), to address big data applications, in-memory and real time, for example with the SAP HANA® appliance
  •  TCO reduction (Total Cost of Ownership) of virtualization clusters
  • Virtualization of critical applications.
  • Technological alternative at a lower cost software for Sparc and HP-UX systems.

” This recognition is paramount to Atos strategic commitment to develop – through its Bull brand – innovative systems for high performance computing to process large volumes of data – exactly what is needed to overcome the challenges of the 21st century. Bullion is the most powerful server in the world and thus a real pride for the Group. Bull’s technological expertise in the field of infrastructure is again welcomed. The power demonstrated by bullion, coupled with its exceptional memory capacity, makes it the benchmark of servers chosen for its memory capacity and supports our ambition to become a world leader in Big Data, “said Arnaud Bertrand, Group SVP, Head of Big Data & HPC at Atos.

Bull sets high standard

Bull is building a reputation for its innovative products that beat records. Sequana X1000, its range of exascale-class supercomputers, the forerunners of the generation offer a thousand times more performance than current petaflops-scale systems. This compute performance is necessary to increase the quality and speed of digital simulations for both research and industry, so as to be in a position to tackle the 21st century socio-economic challenges.

Latest generation bullion server, bullion S, equipped with 288 cores on 16 Intel® Xeon® processor E7 v3 and 4TB of RAM, achieved a peak performance of 11600 – 11100 Base – according to SPECInt_rate2006 benchmark. This new performance is proof of the relevance of technological choices for the range of bullion servers, a modular and consistent range, from 2-16 sockets.

About SPEC

The System Performance Evaluation Cooperative, now named the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC), was founded in 1988 by a small number of workstation vendors who realized that the marketplace was in desperate need of realistic, standardized performance tests. The key realization was that an ounce of honest data was worth more than a pound of marketing hype. SPEC has grown to become one of the more successful performance standardization bodies with more than 60 member companies. SPEC publishes several hundred different performance results each quarter spanning a variety of system performance disciplines.
