Purple Light Up 2022

It seems like it was only the blink of an eye since we were last marking International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPWD) and participating in Purple Light Up. Yes, here we are again at the beginning of December making our websites around the world Purple for the day and running an event to celebrate.

Despite the numerous challenges that the world has faced this year, there are still many things to applaud. Mainstream technology continues to add more and more assistive features, and much thought has gone in to improving the accessibility of hybrid work by design. Live captions are becoming ubiquitous no matter what platform, and it’s never been easier to check your documents for accessibility as a non-expert.

Our own accessibility program has accelerated, and we have welcomed hundreds more contributors to our multitude of initiatives across all areas of our business.

Some of the highlights for me have been the regular round tables from our employee network Atos Adapt in the UK. The employee led sessions have really helped spread awareness of a wide range of different disabilities and it’s been a real boost for our inclusive culture that senior leaders have been sharing their own lived experiences of disability.

Another highlight has been our ICT 4 Inclusion Challenge India edition which in 2022 has focussed on technology innovation to mitigate the risk of climate change and environmental disasters on people with disabilities and the aging population. These groups are often most affected and frequently forgotten. Along with our original partners GIZ we welcomed Zero Project and Ability Foundation. You can watch the awards ceremony as part of our live streamed event.

Finally, the work of the accessibility team was recognized when Atos was recognized in the Microsoft Partner Awards as a finalist in the Inclusion Change Maker Category.

Let’s celebrate today the achievements made through working together in partnership and look forward to the opportunities for disability inclusion in 2023.
