#PurpleLightUp 2021

As we once again celebrate International Day of Persons With Disabilities this December 3rd it feels like a good time to reflect on what’s been happening at Atos in terms of disability inclusion and accessibility in the 12 months since the last #PurpleLightUp.

We’ve been able to put our policies into action through the creation of our accessibility governance programme chaired by our CEO with the active support of our Heads of HR, CSR and Digital Transformation, Strategy and Operations. This executive support has been more than met by support from within the business and we now have hundreds of people engaged as single points of contact for accessibility for their area of responsibility in Atos.

Our FUEL program for future leaders engaged and created an accessibility champions program in collaboration with the Accessibility team and external partners. We have created training curricula for employees, celebrated the approval of the first ever Digital Accessibility Specialist apprenticeship standard by the UK Department for Education that Atos had spearheaded with myself and Mark Wilcock as chairs of the trailblazer group.

We also gained disability confident leader status thanks to the hard work of our Adapt employee network. Their regular roundtable sessions about accessibility and disability engage hundreds of employees each meeting.

2021 also saw us strengthen our accessibility practice internationally with the appointment of senior leaders in UK&I, India, France and Iberia: Jim, Vishal, John and Ricardo bring great experience and valuable perspectives on how to deliver inclusion from many different angles.

We celebrated GAAD with our partners thanks to the many colleagues who contributed and especially to Christina Papadimitriou who moved mountains to make it happen.

Finally the sweetest thing of all is that #PurpleLightUp last year was the catalyst that led to a colleague reaching out to me about accessibility. That colleague was Alexandra Nothnagel and she’s now helping me run our accessibility program.

Happy #IDPD & may your #PurpleLightUp dreams of inclusion also come true.
