The challenge

Atos has been selected by the European Space Agency on behalf of the European Commission to lead a consortium to combine real-time geo data from Copernicus, the world’s largest single Earth Observation program, with data from multiple sources to turn it into information products for sectors such as manufacturing, insurance, utilities, agriculture, forestry, town planning, insurance or energy.

The solution

Deploying the technologies of Atos Codex, Atos will be responsible for integrating, delivering and operating the Cloud platform which will bring together specialized data sources. This new platform, called Mundi Web Services (mundiwebservices.com), will make the data from the European constellation of Sentinel satellites and from third party data sources more accessible, giving the scientific community, industrial players, institutions such as national space agencies, as well as start-ups an unprecedented opportunity to develop innovative business services based on satellite data.

Together with its partners in the consortium*, Atos will build and commercialize the new services. Atos sees immense opportunities from combining Earth Observation data with other data sources to address some of society’s greatest challenges such as wildlife protection, climate change or resource scarcity.
