Atos and Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) to develop and operate all IT infrastructure & applications for Egypt’s new capital city
ACUD and Atos joint venture ambitions to make city a state-of-the-art model in terms of smart infrastructures and services
Paris, France, and Cairo, Egypt – January 23, 2023
The Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) and Atos have formally signed an agreement to establish a joint venture company in Egypt. It will be tasked with the comprehensive management and operations of all IT infrastructure and applications within the ACUD and provide services to the first smart city in the region.
ACUD is the owner and developer of the New Administrative Capital in Egypt, located 45 km east of Cairo. The new capital city, covering an area of 714 square kilometers, will help to strengthen and diversify Egypt’s economic potential by creating new places to live, work and visit. The smart city initiative within the ACUD framework aims to leverage advanced technologies to develop a state-of-the-art urban area in terms of infrastructures, and services offerings to ultimately deliver an unmatched quality of life for residents. The initiative will be deployed across three main sites, the Main Spine, Central Bus Station, and People’s Park, to facilitate seamless communication, optimize transportation for commuters and deliver enhanced citizen experience.
Under the terms of this agreement, Atos will manage, operate and maintain infrastructure and information technology systems inside and outside the New Administrative Capital, supporting for instance 750,000 smart electricity and gas meters and the 100,000+ smart streetlights expected to be deployed. Furthermore , Atos will play a vital role in knowledge transfer, endowing the joint venture with insights and best practices derived from its longstanding successful management of smart city initiatives worldwide.
The agreement was formalized with the signatures of Khaled Abbas, Chairman of ACUD and Ahmed ElHarany, General Manager Egypt and Head of Global Delivery Centers Africa, Atos. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Nourdine Bihmane, Deputy CEO Atos Group and CEO Tech Foundations, and Bérénice Chassagne, CEO Growing Markets, Atos.
This landmark partnership positions ACUD to advance its technological infrastructure in support of urban development. ACUD aims at providing smart city services to inhabitants and visitors, including smart metering, smart cards, smart recycling, smart parking, smart payment and smart lighting. The joint venture company is poised to be a key player in shaping the digital landscape of the New Administrative Capital.
