The delivery of SAP HANA platform installed on bullion S servers to OPO Oeschger marks Atos debut in Switzerland

Zurich, 20 December 2016

Atos, through its technology brand Bull, marks its debut in Switzerland by installing the bullion S servers of the new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system on the basis of SAP HANA at its client OPO Oeschger. OPO Oeschger AG is a Swiss SME that specializes in selling fittings, tools and machines for furniture, doors and buildings to tradesmen and public works companies.

For a good ten years now OPO has been using one of the most powerful web portals in Switzerland. This digital tool allows the company above all to guarantee delivery within 24 hours for all of the items listed in its massive catalogue. Performing the complex tasks that go with this service, including inventory management, supply chain optimization and particularly the administration of their enormous catalogue with its tens of thousands of items and multiple price lists requires a real-time platform offering fast processing speed, scalability as well as maximum availability. Implemented on a new bullion S server infrastructure, the SAN HANA platform is the ideal solution to meet this challenge. The bullion S servers are among the very first HANA platforms to have been certified by SAP for RAM capacities ranging from 512 GB to 16 TB.

RZ1_data_centreConfronted with ever-increasing processing demands in real-time, due to its numerous promotional activities and the frequent updates of its prices, OPO decided in early 2015 to migrate its critical applications to new in-memory solutions based on SAP HANA.

25 years ago, OPO had developed its own application on Honeywell Bull host computers, before transferring it 5 years ago to a SAP R/3 platform installed under NovaScale, the first generation of operation systems for bullion servers.

Since the expertise in SAP HANA migration is still relatively limited, Atos did not only provide the platform itself but has also made available to its client OPO all the necessary know-how, in very close cooperation with Agilita AG, its SAP integration partner, and with EMC, the specialist in data storage solutions.

With Atos, OPO has chosen a partner who is capable of taking them through all the phases of the project thanks to its vast know-how in terms of application, integration and installation. After having organized a joint workshop to identify the requirements specific to the new OPO architecture, the responsible people at the client company and the SAP HANA application experts of the Atos group worked together on configuring the complete system setup needed for the test phases, the development and the launch of the productive phase at OPO’s primary and secondary data centres. But not only that: the specialists from Atos whose main activity is to certify the bullion S computers at the SAP centre in Walldorf, were present also at OPO’s sites, where in close cooperation with their partners, they assisted with the installation of the systems.

“Thanks to these new SAP HANA systems and our cooperation with Atos, we have a high-performance, scalable, reliable and robust platform that simplifies all our operations, including our routine activities. We decided to go with Atos because this IT provider has the capability to accompany us, in conjunction with its partners, through all the project stages”, adds Raoul Lema, IT Manager at OPO Oeschger.

“We are developing and evolving all the time. The migration to a SAP HANA solution installed on state-of-the-art, scalable bullion S servers has enabled us to improve our performance and our real-time processing capacities. Our company has benefited greatly from this, not least our distribution and logistics services – but equally the IT services department, which has been able to up its performance”, says David Froidevaux, Member of the Board of Directors responsible for IT services and processes at Atos.
