“Atos launches the Self-Service Hadoop platform to meet the challenges of Big Data”

Atos, an international leader in digital services, launches the Self-Service Hadoop software platform. It accelerates the digital transformation of enterprises by making available fast and service based, Big Data software components.

Originating from strategic innovation of the Internet industry giants, Hadoop and its ecosystem of Big Data technologies are the key to the data architectures of the next generation. They offer distributed storage and a massively scalable data processing platform with a linear price-to-performance ratio. Hadoop enables enterprises to build new types of data driven applications that are at the heart of their digital strategy.

Atos designed and developed Hadoop Self-Service platform in response to the high adoption rates of the Hadoop ecosystem and of Big Data technologies in enterprises. It is a generic software platform that standardizes the infrastructure requirements with respect to any field of application while making access easy.

With Hadoop Self-Service a Big Data application environment can be made available very rapidly and administered by the IT department. Deployment, which can be achieved with a few clicks, will automatically make available new Big Data environments to project teams, and therefore limit the need to resort to expert skills, that are difficult to find and costly, with each new project or deployment. The platform can be used to provision Hadoop working environments on a private cloud or a private data center or even a public cloud.

Hadoop Self-Service caters for the needs of both the IT department that makes available a platform and the operational departments (project & business teams) that are the end users of such a platform.

The development of Hadoop Self-Service is the result of cooperation and a strategic partnership with MAPR, the software provider of the open source platform.

« Thanks to the combination of MapR’s distribution of Hadoop, which is entirely designed to meet the requirements of enterprises, and a software base for automatic deployment developed by Atos, Hadoop Self-Service enables the implementation of a Big Data platform on all types of infrastructure without the need to take their specific characteristics into account. Clearly, the solution is independent of the infrastructure. In this regard, Atos’s offer is positioned above orchestrators, virtual machine monitors or physical servers and enables developers and business stakeholders to overcome systems problems» explained Jérôme Sandrini Vice-President Big Data Software and Atos Professional Services.

« Atos designed and developed a tool for automating platform components from top to bottom, in order to streamline the deployment of a Big Data platform by setting up a self-service and expandable model that integrates the areas of responsibilities of the various enterprise players: the research and development teams, the systems architects and the operations teams » explained Xavier Guerin, VP EMEA Alliances and MapR Partners.
