Mentorship, Meaning and Momentum

In conversation with Atos’s Victoria Erice Alonso on sustaining the IWD spirit

As the world celebrates IWD 2026 this weekend, we ask Victoria Erice Alonso, Head of Marketing & Communication for Atos Major Events for her perspective on the effectiveness of IWD campaigns, the theme for 2026, and how she is making a difference in a world where women are still striving for basic rights.

Read on as she recalls selfless mentors who gave without anticipating any thanks, and elaborates on her plans to make a difference this IWD and all through the year with a “give to gain” mindset that is as simple as it is impactful.

Dive in!

1. Before we start, we have to ask a question that seems to always crop up at this time of the year: Do you think IWD themes are short-lived celebrations or are they truly impactful with ripple effects throughout the year?

While March 8 serves as a highly visible global focal point, its true value lies in the collective effort and shared responsibility that continues around the year. International Women’s Day belongs to everyone who cares about human rights. For the impact to be lasting rather than short-lived, it is essential that the spirit of giving evolves into a sustained contribution of time, visibility, and knowledge. True impact is measured by the ripple effects created when awareness activities transition into structural changes and year-long support for organizations.

Therefore, the celebration acts as a catalyst, but collective action is what ultimately forges enduring gender parity.

2. The IWD 2026 theme, “Give to Gain,” calls for supporting women’s advancement to create a better world for everyone through the spirit of giving. What are your thoughts on this?

The "Give to Gain" concept is powerful because it reinforces the idea that gender equity is an investment in a more prosperous and equitable world for everyone. Global progress is linked to creating inclusive workplaces where everyone is enabled to perform at their best. This theme encourages synergy, proving that gender equality is forged through collaboration and a collective effort to eliminate bias and stereotypes. It is an invitation to recognize that individual success is deeply connected to collective progress.

3. Is there a role model from your own life who has embodied this theme (Give to Gain)? And how?

Throughout my career, I have been inspired by mentors who embodied the spirit of providing knowledge and visibility without expecting immediate personal return. These role models understand that sharing experiences and opening doors for other women are the most effective ways to "give to gain". These leaders focus on empowering others, aligning with the vision that the story of women's struggle belongs to all who strive for equity. They demonstrate that leadership is not just about individual achievements, but about fostering shared growth, empathy, and active listening — key elements that ensure everyone in a team feels they belong and are supported at every step.

4. In today’s world where women are still striving to be recognized in the face of gender equality, pay gaps, and basic human rights too, how can every woman imbibe a “Give to Gain” mindset?

Adopting this mindset begins by recognizing that all IWD activity is valid and necessary for the movement. Every woman can embrace this spirit by fostering a culture of belonging and mutual support, ensuring no one is left behind despite economic pressures or social shifts. The key is understanding that by strengthening our collective support networks and advocating for human rights, we create an environment where female excellence can finally be recognized and valued equitably.

5. How are you looking to embrace your drive to “give to gain” in a sustainable, reciprocative and nurturing manner?

I intend to integrate the "give to gain" drive sustainably by prioritizing reciprocal mentorship and wellbeing within my professional sphere. To amplify this message, I will leverage social media and its capacity to connect with global professional networks and showcase the power of collective effort.

Offline, I will focus on participating in forums that explore environmental sustainability and social equity, understanding that true inclusion encompasses the diverse challenges faced by different communities. I aim to build deep connections, ensuring this commitment is a daily practice of active listening and shared growth that nurtures both the giver and the recipient.

6. How is Atos enabling you to empower your team members to contribute and leverage their own skills?

Atos facilitates this empowerment through robust talent programs, coaching and mentoring initiatives and a diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) structure that is designed to make every individual feel valued and empowered to contribute their best. The organization promotes inclusive environments, allowing team members to leverage their unique skills in an atmosphere of belonging and constant support. Initiatives such as the DE&I Summit and programs focused on digital inclusion and accessibility ensure that technology acts as a catalyst for empowerment rather than a barrier.

By fostering honest conversations and valuing positive intent, Atos provides the framework for leaders to unlock the talent of every collaborator and advance together toward innovative and equitable solutions.
