Scaling people operations for a fast‑growing renewable leader

SUNOTEC is an international system integrator of large-scale renewable energy infrastructure, specializing in the design and delivery of integrated energy systems. The company combines energy generation, storage, grid infrastructure and lifecycle expertise to create reliable and future-ready energy solutions.

Founded in 2012, SUNOTEC has delivered more than 680 photovoltaic installations with over 15 gigawatts of installed capacity and 5 GWh of battery energy storage projects across Europe and beyond. Headquartered in Sofia, Bulgaria, with additional offices in Germany and the United Kingdom, the company combines international expertise with local execution. SUNOTEC employs over 2,000 professionals worldwide and continues to expand into new markets through strategic partnerships and joint ventures.

 

Solution

A two‑wave, best‑practice rollout of SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central

SUNOTEC’s transformation journey was shaped by close partnership with Atos and a shared commitment to excellence. The project unfolded in two phases, with a first go‑live after eight months and a second wave six months after that, ultimately covering around 2,600 users and setting the stage for further growth.

Leveraging the Atos Golden Client Template and accelerators to reduce implementation time, minimize customization, and ensure alignment with SAP best practices SUNOTEC was able to standardize HR lifecycle processes—hiring, internal moves, and terminations—across all legal entities. Position management and job architecture were established as foundational elements, ensuring clarity and consistency for both HR and business leaders.

Seamless integration with SAP S/4HANA and payroll systems enabled secure, automated data flows between HR and Finance, eliminating manual handoffs and reducing errors. Localization for Bulgaria and Germany addressed country‑specific requirements, while structured data migration and rigorous user acceptance testing protected data quality and system reliability. Throughout the project, governance and milestone tracking kept delivery on course, and proactive change management supported user adoption.

A strong focus on employee and manager self‑service—including mobile access—empowered SUNOTEC’s workforce to manage HR tasks independently, boosting engagement and efficiency. Knowledge transfer and training ensured SUNOTEC’s HR and IT teams could confidently operate and maintain the new platform, reducing reliance on external support and building lasting capability for future innovation.
