Primetals Technologies faced the challenge of transforming a highly complex and globally distributed SAP landscape. With 14 legal entities across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, ensuring consistency in business processes while maintaining operational continuity was critical.
The company required a seamless transition from SAP R/3 to SAP S/4HANA without disrupting core ERP, product lifecycle management and analytics systems. Additionally, numerous interfaces to satellite systems had to be adapted, demanding precise coordination, rigorous testing, and robust governance across regions.

Atos implemented a comprehensive brownfield conversion approach, enabling a fast and secure migration to SAP S/4HANA. Extensive preparation included multiple sandbox environments for technical and functional testing and detailed cut-over planning.
The transformation followed a “big bang” approach, successfully executed within one week. At the same time, Atos supported a strategic architecture decision to maintain operations on-premise in Vienna, ensuring strong governance, enhanced security, and alignment with European data residency requirements.
