Atos delivers globally deployable data center to the German Armed Forces

Mission test planned at the information technology battalion 292 in Dillingen

Dillingen an der Donau, Munich, November 25 2021 – The German Armed Forces, the Bundeswehr, have commissioned Atos to deliver a globally deployable Information Technology Center (ITC). This ITC will be set up at the information technology battalion (ITBtl) 292 at the Bundeswehr site in Dillingen an der Donau and consecutively put into operation with the client, the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), and the Cyber and Information Space Command as user representatives. The entire system will subsequently be deployed to Mali within the framework of the UN mission MINUSMA and will be used there.

Udo Littke, Head of Atos in Central Europe, says: “We have a long-standing, trusting relationship with the Bundeswehr. As the general contractor for the ITC, we are proud to contribute to the support and protection of the soldiers in action.”

In addition to the pure technology, the ITC accommodates up to 45 workstations for IT specialists. The ITC thus enables the continuous and secure processing of information in addition to the exchange of information between different IT systems of the Bundeswehr supported by the highest information security standards.

Over the past few months, Atos has demonstrated compliance with the high performance requirements at the Dillingen site. Thanks to successful cooperation between the project participants and the Bundeswehr services, the system will be available to the soldiers in action on the ground in Mali at the end of July 2022, as planned. The order was placed in June 2020.

The ITC consists of a total of 31 shipping containers, plus additional storage and workshop containers. A distinct feature to note is that the containers are protected against bullets thanks to approximately 600 tons of steel, which were precisely processed, welded and joined together in the manufacturing process. The deployable ITC can also be operated in temperature ranges between -32 and +54 degrees Celsius. By means of state-of-the-art air-conditioning technology, the temperature inside the containers can be set individually for each room between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius.
