Atos announces new contract with SIX Group

The renowned Zurich financial services provider relies on the performance of Atos for mainframe management

Zurich – 23. November 2022 – Atos takes over the management of SIX Group’s mainframe systems with immediate effect. As a new IT partner, Atos ensures fail-safe operation of business-critical applications and thus supports the growth course of the Zurich-based financial services provider.

SIX operates the financial market infrastructure in Switzerland. Since the purchase and successful integration of the Spanish stock exchange BME, SIX has also operated the infrastructure for the Spanish market. By entrusting the management of the mainframe systems to Atos, SIX gives the company more time for new projects in order to further increase the innovative strength of the Swiss and Spanish financial center.

Financial industry continues to rely on mainframes

Mainframe systems form the IT backbone of banks and insurance companies. Every year, around 12.6 billion financial transactions are processed via the technology. The mainframes enable huge volumes of data to be processed precisely with minimal latency. They run business-critical applications that must not fail under any circumstances. However, 24/7 support of the mainframe systems is costly and ties up resources, which in turn are lacking elsewhere. Atos supports the financial sector with a special mainframe management in order to release resources for the core business and to pool the competence of the specialists profitably in mainframe hubs and to use them efficiently.

Extensive customer knowledge and experience crucial

Atos has more than 25 years of experience in mainframe operations and can look back on over 70 successful mainframe transitions. Even during the tender phase, the technology specialists worked closely with SIX. Thanks to their expertise and great commitment, they were ultimately able to win the project. The contract has a term of five years and a volume of approximately ten million Swiss francs. As part of this outsourcing, some SIX employees have decided to move to Atos and support the expansion of Atos› Swiss mainframe HUB for the financial industry.

«With Atos, we have an experienced and competent global IT player at our side. Together, we can further drive the growth of SIX Group, which will be spurred on by the integration of the IT of the Spanish stock exchange, among other things,» comments Chris Landis, CIO of SIX Group, on the decision for Atos.

«SIX has confidence in our capabilities. And that’s exactly why they chose Atos. This deal is another milestone for us on our growth path with financial service providers in Switzerland,» says Bruno Schenk, CEO of Atos Switzerland.
