Migros and Atos extend partnership to accelerate IT automation and resilience

Renewed three-year framework agreement advances the transformation of Migros’ business-critical data center platforms through automation and scalable trusted managed services.

Zurich, Switzerland, October 8, 2026 – Atos, a global leader of AI-powered digital transformation, today announces it will continue to operate and modernize Migros’ business-critical data center platforms for at least three more years. The renewed agreement marks the next phase of a partnership that has evolved from first-generation outsourcing into a strategic managed-services model focused on automation, resilience, governance and scalable transformation.

Under the new framework agreement, Atos remains responsible for the operation of Migros’ compute, storage and database platforms under a nearshore delivery model, including proactive maintenance, patch management and incident resolution in line with agreed service levels. The scope covers around 2,200 server systems, more than 450 databases and approximately 4 petabytes of storage across four data center sites.

The partnership supports Migros in consolidating, standardizing and automating its IT landscape as the Group continues to focus on core business priorities. Atos provides the operational processes, platform expertise and scalable resources needed to integrate additional systems efficiently, improve service quality and reduce the need for Migros to expand internal operational capacity at the same pace.

Beyond day-to-day operations, Atos acts as a trusted advisor and implementation partner for the modernization of Migros’ data center infrastructure, leveraging global technology partnerships and competitive procurement conditions.

“This extension is more than a continuation of operations; it is the next step in transforming a proven outsourcing relationship into a strategic platform partnership. Together with Migros, we are strengthening automation, resilience and scalability across business-critical infrastructure,” says Pascal Howald, client executive partner, Atos in Switzerland.

Focus on automation and compliance

The agreement sets two clear priorities: efficiency and governance. Through a jointly agreed automation fund, Atos and Migros will invest in software- and data-driven hybrid cloud platforms, modern automation technologies and artificial intelligence to accelerate time to market and improve service quality and availability.

Compliance and business continuity are equally central. Atos provides structured operational documentation, defined contingency and escalation plans, and regular training to strengthen traceability, audit readiness and the ability to respond effectively in exceptional situations.

European proximity and operational stability

Atos combines nearshore delivery with a local Swiss team to ensure short decision-making paths, close coordination and reliable day-to-day operations. As a European partner, Atos also brings expertise in data sovereignty, governance and long-term collaboration — capabilities that are increasingly important in a complex geopolitical and regulatory environment.

“Competition in the Swiss retail sector requires IT platforms that respond quickly and reliably to changing customer needs. To achieve this, we need partners who handle our data and systems with the same understanding of sovereignty as we do. With Atos, we have a European partner at our side who supports exactly that,” says Patrick Mosberger, head infrastructure at Migros.

Olivier Vareilhes, head of Switzerland, Atos, says: “The extension of our collaboration with Migros shows how long-term trust can become a platform for continuous transformation. As a European technology partner, we are helping Migros build an IT foundation that is more efficient, resilient and ready for the next phase of digital business.”

About the partnership

The collaboration between Atos and Migros began in 2019 with a first-generation outsourcing agreement and went live in 2020 after the initial transformation phase. Since then, the partnership has evolved into a long-term model for the stable, standardized and scalable operation of Migros’ complex data center platforms.

The Migros Group employs 92,000 people and generates annual turnover of 31.9 billion Swiss francs, making it one of Switzerland’s largest and most prominent private companies.
