Client Challenge
UEFA is at the heart of European football. It’s a group of 55 national football associations across Europe that bring together some of the most celebrated events in the sports industry.
Since football competitions have become more connected and widely viewed, UEFA wanted to keep pace with the evolution of its audience, who want cutting-edge technology, more data, real-time information and better engagement.
UEFA required a reliable IT partner to manage, improve, and optimize its complex technology landscape, helping to navigate the technological challenges that come with hosting such an iconic football tournament.
Solution
From application support to project coordination, the Atos team took care of the entire event, providing a true end-to-end solution.
First, UEFA needed to modernize its technology landscape to manage the complexity and scale of the upcoming tournament. To provide a cutting-edge solution quickly, Atos collaborated with its delivery partner AWS. Together they implemented the critical infrastructure that hosted UEFA’s services, applications, and data. The solution was effortlessly scaled during peak demand periods, ensuring service availability and real-time data distribution.
On top of that, Atos delivered and managed 200 applications, adding new features and making improvements along the way. An event management system was set up to handle the accreditations, processing around 130,000 requests throughout the tournament.
Providing on-site and remote support was crucial for ensuring business continuity and security. The Atos team played a vital role in this, supplying more than 10,000 assets needed for the tournament’s execution. On the ground, venue managers and service desk specialists were present at the ten tournament stadiums. Meanwhile, remote team members operated from the International Broadcast Center and the IT Command Center in Leipzig, as well as from other locations around the world.
Business Benefits
Millions of fans enjoyed a seamless and unforgettable experience, both online and in the stadium. There were also zero security incidents which meant no disruption to the games.
Digital tools like the Football Service Platform and UEFA mobile app brought real-time data and statistics to the entire UEFA community, including match results, line-ups, live match events, player statuses, and rankings- all of which support UEFA’s digital transformation goals.
The engagement was incredible, with around 3.8 billion views across the web and app, 10 million app downloads, and over 20 million fans engaging with Fantasy Football.
Why Atos
Building on their 8-year partnership established in 2022, Atos and UEFA will continue to collaborate closely, with Atos providing ongoing support to UEFA in the daily management and enhancement of its global systems and applications. This partnership will also focus on laying the groundwork for future events, including the Nations league Final in 2025, ensuring UEFA is well-prepared to deliver exceptional experiences.
