Universidad Francisco de Vitoria wins 12th edition of the Atos IT Challenge with VR Speech Trainer

Paris, France – July 6th , 2023

Atos announces the winners of its international student competition, the Atos IT Challenge. The 2023 theme The Metaverse – new experiences for business ecosystems attracted numerous students around the world resulting in 96 project submissions from 59 universities across 26 countries.

In December, 17 teams were preselected to work on the development of their application with some guidance and help from coaches, members of the Atos Scientific Community. After several months of hard work, only 6 of them had the opportunity to present their project in front of the Final Jury Panel.

On June 22, the awards ceremony took place virtually in an Atos metaverse platform during which the winner was announced.

  • 1st prize : “VR Speech Trainer”, Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, Spain

The team consisting of Carlos Abia, Gonzalo Izuzquiza de Zarandieta and Jorge Puertas is the big winner of the 12th edition of the IT Challenge. The students successfully developed an application that provides opportunities for individuals to confidently express themselves in front of an audience. By means of virtual training on a stage in an auditorium from within the metaverse and using a VR headset in order to perfect any presentations or to practice in what feels like real life conditions. The excellent work and dedication saw them win first place and receive a €10,000 prize!

  • 2nd prize: “VIEW”, from Institut ivoirien de technologie, Ivory Coast

The team designed a platform within the metaverse which presents virtual labs and spaces in which students in Africa will have appropriate materials to practice and be able to achieve all kinds of real-life experiences.

  • 3rd prize: “SensoVerse”, Orleans University, France

The team created an innovative and inclusive communication system allowing users who are deaf to have sign language translated from a glove into a sequence of words on the screen of others.

Since its first edition in 2012, the Atos IT Challenge has empowered students from around the globe to develop applications related to major trends in the digital revolution, such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, smart mobility, connected cars, interactive media, connected life and decarbonisation.
