Supercomputers helpen bij voorspellen weersverwachtingen en klimaatonderzoek

Het Koninklijk Nederlands Meteorologisch Instituut (KNMI) maakt gebruik van Bull/Atos High-Performance Computingsystemen (HPC) als rekenkracht voor onder meer hun weersverwachtingen en klimaatmodellen. HPC-systemen worden ook wel supercomputers genoemd. Ook Météo-France, de nationale meteorologische dienst voor Frankrijk en zijn overzeese gebiedsdelen en het Spaanse Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET) werken met Bull/Atos HPC-systemen. Het Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) staat op het punt deze supercomputers in gebruik te nemen.
