European Games 2023

Over the months of June and July this year, the elite of European sports will come together in the heart of Poland to celebrate the third edition of the European Games. This festival of sports, also known as Kraków-Małopolska 2023, will bring together more than 7,000 athletes from 48 different countries. From June 21 to July 2 this year, athletes will travel to the city of Kraków and the Małopolska region to compete in this international sporting event, and in some cases, will fight for the chance to live the dream of qualifying for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.

The 2023 European Games will bring together athletes competing in 28 disciplines. We will be able to enjoy performances of athletes competing in a rich variety of events, ranging from water sports such as artistic swimming and canoe sprint, martial arts including judo and kickboxing, and innovative sports rising in popularity such as freestyle BMX cycling and breakdancing, to name a few.

Introduction of new sports in 2023 European Games

The EG2023 will be the first time we will witness the new sports of padel and teqball as part of the European Games. These sports, which are both growing rapidly in competition level and fan engagement, will be featured for the first time on a large international scale. The games will be a great opportunity for the athletes involved in these two disciplines to showcase their sports to a brand-new audience — and for sports fans to satisfy their craving for exciting new disciplines.

Similarly, the Games will mark an important event for the history of beach handball, making its first appearance at a senior multi-sport event since the 2019 ANOC World Beach Games in Qatar.

Road to Paris 2024 Olympic Games

These European Games will mark a life-changing moment for many of the athletes involved, serving as an important stepping-stone for the continent’s athletes on the road to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Over the 12 days of competition, the Games will serve as European championships or qualifying rounds in several disciplines, deciding which European athletes will get to live the dream of every elite athlete — competing in the Olympics next summer.

For Atos, the European Games are also an important “dress rehearsal” for Paris 2024. As the Official Digital Technology Partner for the 2023 and 2027 European Games, we will provide a wide range of technology services, including a web portal for managing the thousands of volunteers required to make the Games a success. Atos is also in charge of the official website, mobile app, ticketing platform, and integrating all the digital assets and functionality that bring a personalized games experience to every user.

Splendid and sustainable hosting venues

All of the events at the 2023 European Games will be played at splendid venues in the Polish city of Krakow and the surrounding Małopolska region. Following the International Olympic Committee’s Agenda 2020 recommendations regarding environment and sustainability, the local committee has chosen to do minimal work to the beautiful, pre-existing local stadiums, gyms and facilities to transform them into hosting venues for the competitions.

The 2023 European Games promise to be an exciting international sporting event and will shape the way we view European sport today. The Games’ mascots “Krakusek” the dragon, and “Sandra” the salamander, along with Polish culture and heritage, now await the arrival of the athletes and fans for this celebration of European sport.

At Atos, we are proud to be the Official Digital Technology Partner of the European Olympic Committee, and we look forward to helping make this the most digital, most sustainable edition of the European Games ever.
