Atos Olympic Lunch
Espoo, 20 February 2018
As the Worldwide IT Partner for the Olympic and Paralympic Games since 2001, we manage the IT system for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games, which mark our 5th Winter Olympics in our partnership. For the first time, our technology systems are 100% hosted on the Cloud, which allows our team to remotely support the operations from our centralized IT facilities in Spain.
During the lunch session, we learned about the technology behind the Olympic Games and how Atos supports the Games. Together, we got a sneak peek of our Central Technology Operations Center (CTOC) in Barcelona through a live video call with our team.
To live the full Olympic experience of the 2018 Winter Games, we enjoyed a delicious South Korean lunch. We had the honor to meet the Finnish Olympic Committee and the Finnish Biathlon Association during the event, who also showed us how to shoot with demo guns used for training in biathlon.
The day culminated with live streaming of the biathlon competition from PyeongChang.
Most of us have little idea how important the underlying digital technology is to the Olympic Games. It is not only massive, incredibly complex and vital to the success of the event; it also has a fixed deadline and the event must be beamed to the world within half a second.
The IOC and Atos embrace digital transformation and see step changes in how disruptive technologies address emerging challenges and make a major impact.
