“Atos is recognized by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) as the 2015 global leader in the IT industry for its performance to reduce carbon emissions. In addition, Atos announces to join the “Commit To Action” initiative ahead of the COP 21 to tackle climate change”

Atos, an international leader in digital services, today announces that it has been awarded the best score in climate performance and granted a leading position on The Climate “A” List by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). In addition, the company also announces it has joined the international platform created by CDP and the “We Mean Business Coalition” to tackle climate change.

Atos is among the top 5% of worldwide leaders that have been awarded an A grade for their performance by CDP. The company has been scored against two scoring schemes: performance and disclosure. On the 2015 CDP Climate Performance Leadership Index, Atos is ranked on the A List and, as such, is recognized as the global leader within the IT sector for its actions to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the business risks of climate change. On the 2015 CDP Climate Disclosure Leadership Index, Atos scored 100 demonstrating a high level of transparency and comprehensiveness in its disclosure.

The 2015 Climate Leadership Awards ceremony took place today in Paris at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the event, CDP congratulated Atos for its climate change leadership and recognized the company as a world leader for corporate action on climate change, with a position on its 2015 Climate A List. This excellent result is due to the continuous efforts made to include the environmental challenge in Atos’s strategy to shift towards a low-carbon economy.

Conscious of the crucial role digital technologies play in developing solutions to combat climate change, and as a leader in the technology industry with a global reach, Atos has decided to strengthen its involvement. The company committed to four climate initiatives ahead of COP21 – the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Atos has committed to:

  • Adopt a science based emissions reduction target, supporting the world effort to limit the rise of climate change to 2°C;
  • Put a price on carbon to advocate the importance of carbon in the performance management and to materially affect investment decisions to drive down greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Engage more actively with stakeholders to contribute effectively to building a low-carbon and climate resilient economy;
  • Publicly disclose climate change information in its mainstream reports.

Thierry Breton, Atos Chairman & CEO, said: “Digital technologies can undoubtedly improve the climate performance of all market sectors and in so doing help us progress towards a lower carbon intensive economy. As a leading provider of digital services, we are particularly proud of this latest award that recognises our determination to always improve our performance, and demonstrates our commitment to innovate and develop digital solutions that our clients can use to tackle climate change and meet their business challenges.”

Paul Dickinson, CDP’s executive chairman and co-founder
, said: “The influence of the corporation is mighty. We congratulate the A List companies that are illuminating the path to a low carbon future through their climate leadership. The momentum of business action on climate change suggests we are reaching a tipping point, where companies are poised to achieve their full potential. They need ambitious policy at both a national and international level that will support them in this regard and will catalyze participation from industry at scale.”

The Climate A List is released in CDP’s annual global climate change report 2015, available on the CDP’s website.
