“Utilities empowered by Big Data analytics solution from Atos”

Atos Worldgrid, a world leader in intelligent energy management solutions, launches its Big Data solution for utility companies that allows consumers to regain control of their energy consumption whilst at the same time allowing utility companies to develop new added-value services. Atos will demonstrate its new solution on stand A.K41 at European Utility Week 2015 in Vienna from 3-5 November.

Business reinvention – hub for running and supporting the connected household

Developed on the Atos Business Analytics Platform, the new energy multi-sided market solution is a Big Data platform for services focused on business reinvention. It enables utility companies to create new services based on meter data in order to improve customer engagement, minimize churn and open new revenue streams. The solution analyzes meter data from all streams, including electricity, gas and water for distribution, retail utilities and other business partners.

Data for a smart home

Data is at the heart of the solution. By measuring the overall electricity consumption of the household over a span of about ten minutes, the smart meter can provide a fair and precise reading, and can highlight, for example, the excessive consumption of a particularly energy-thirsty oven.

Utilities empowered by Big Data analytics solution from Atos

Big data is transformed into detailed information that enables consumers to get their energy bills back under control. With the right information at their fingertips they can look at what equipment they use and how they do so. For utility companies, it is also an unrivalled opportunity to propose new innovative services in multiple disciplines – security, insurance, health – and to generate new revenues. Firstly, it will enable them to combine their ecosystems with the creation of services. Secondly, they will finally be able to establish a real dialogue with customers.

Jerome de Parscau, CEO at Atos Worldgrid explains: “Today utility companies only spend an average of 9 minutes a year on relationship building with the end customer. We believe there is a golden opportunity for utilities to regain their market territory and enhance the client relationship by offering new value-added services. With the new big data platform, we empower utility companies, so that they can focus on shaping their future business and generate new revenue streams”.

Recent smart metering contracts

Atos Worldgrid is the European leader in the implementation of smart metering systems. It covers all requirements throughout the process, from transmission protocols and concentrators up to the central data management.

The contract is expected to be delivered by the end of 2017 in accordance with EU Directive 2020*. It will be the first phase of a transition program covering near 3.3 million meters in Serbia.

Salzburg Netz GmbH, one of the main infrastructure service providers in Austria, selected Atos as its lead partner to manage the complex transition of 470.000 electricity meters to smart meters and monitor the supporting infrastructure. Most of the smart meters will be installed by the end of 2019 in accordance with EU Directive 2020 and it is planned to serve 100% of consumers in Salzburg with Smart Meters.

Luxmetering G.I.E, comprised of seven electricity and gas Distribution System Operators (DSO’s), selected a consortium led by Sagemcom for the delivery of Luxemburg nationwide electricity and natural gas smart metering system with 400.000 collection points.
