“Siemens Awards Atos Contract to Provide a Platform Built on SAP HANA® and Based on the bullion Server for a Range of Data Services”

Atos, an international leader in digital services, and Siemens, Europe’s largest engineering company, signed a six-year, multi-million Euro contract to provide a platform running in the cloud and built on the SAP HANA® platform for data services to meet Siemens’ growing business demands. The platform – based on bullion, the enterprise high-end x86 server from Bull – will be deployed on a worldwide basis to support more than 100,000 Siemens personnel across the whole Siemens Group.

The contract is leading-edge in terms of size and also in the use of technology, which includes both Bull and EMC hardware and software. When complete, this project will be one of the largest implementations of the SAP HANA platform in the world.

Siemens is implementing SAP HANA – the scalable, in-memory and cloud-enabled SAP platform – as part of its drive for innovation and its visionary move to a more collaborative business model. The move of a large proportion of its core business systems and processes from the classic SAP® ERP application to SAP HANA will increase cost-efficiency, agility and scalability, while also enabling improved organizational agility.

Atos will manage the transition to SAP HANA as one integrated project with measurable client outcomes such as cost reduction, in addition to IT deliverables. Atos also proposed an innovative business model, based on bullion, the latest generation of x86 servers developed by Bull integrated with EMC storage.

Norbert Kleinjohann, Siemens CIO, said: “The project is an essential enabler for the new Siemens business vision, providing the environment in which we can innovate to the benefit of our business. Atos, as our longstanding IT partner, is perfectly positioned to help us make the transition from SAP ERP to SAP HANA.”

Kari Kupila, CEO, Global Siemens Account at Atos, said: “Atos is proud to be the design and implementation partner for a project that is helping to improve the future of Siemens. We are delighted that Siemens has once again placed its trust in Atos to deliver this business-critical project.”

The Siemens-Atos alliance was founded in 2011 and forms one of the largest strategic relationships ever between a global engineering company and a global IT provider. It is built on three pillars. First, Siemens and Atos are business partners focused on driving new business opportunities and customer value through technology. Second, Siemens is the largest client of Atos, and Atos is the preferred provider of Siemens for systems integration, managed services and consulting services. Third, Siemens is the largest industrial shareholder of Atos.
