“Atos unveils its vision in Ascent Journey 2018 -The 3rd Digital Revolution: Agility and Fragility”

By 2018 we will see the full consequences of the digital revolution in the business world

Atos, an international leader in digital services, unveils its vision and anticipates the technology shifts that will shape business through to 2018 in Ascent Journey 2018 – The 3rd Digital Revolution: Agility and Fragility. This unique analysis is the result of extensive research conducted by the 100 top business technologists from the Atos Scientific Community.

The report tells us that the pace of change continues to accelerate. The lifecycle of data is now at the heart of the digital transformation of both business and society. How data is created, transported, analyzed and acted upon represents both opportunity and threat, hence “Agility and Fragility”. Those that are first to grasp its relevance will be the winners in the new data economy. But the full impact of the 3rd Digital Revolution will only be felt when the link is made between the B2C and B2B worlds. Atos believes that by 2018 we will see the full consequences of the digital revolution in business.

Digital Empowerment for business

In the report Atos states that it is an ever connected digital world, with an estimated 4.5 billion smartphones, 2.5 billion users of social networks and more than 25 billion connected objects. To highlight a few key business domains that will be affected:

  • Business  reinvention –The full impact of the 3rd Digital Revolution will only be felt when the link is made between the B2C and B2B worlds. The Internet of Everything and Big Data are the new technology domains that will have a disruptive impact on enterprise IT.
  • Customer experience – Connected consumers seem ready and willing to trade access to their personal data for better and cheaper services, provided that personal data usage is limited to the purposes intended and guaranteed by trusted third parties.
  • Trust & Compliance – The first industry consortia are forming multi-sided markets with privacy and data protection as a built-in feature for trust
  • Operational excellence – Digitizing the Supply Chain and 3D Printing, to extend the boundaries of Product Lifecycle Management and IT/OT convergence. Industry 4.0 challenges traditional front office/back office separation by allowing optimized process in a flexible demand that flows between the two.

Thierry Breton, Chairman and CEO at Atos said: “Looking towards 2018, we can no longer limit our thinking to that of evolution of business and technology, but instead must embrace a revolution in thinking. As businesses we need to do things differently, not just better. Atos is convinced that now is a vital period for all businesses to embark purposefully on their Digital Transformation. We are ready to be their business technologist partner in this journey.”
