Big Data to knowledge – DataLift helping to create digital value
Atos, an international information technology services company and integrator partner of DataLift, announces the commercial launch of a new information flow management solution.
The DataLift offering has been designed for public and private organisations that wish to combine and add value to all their digital information. Under increasingly open ecosystems, companies and administrations have more and more opportunities to develop their own information capital by combining with that of their partners, content providers, social networks, open data and so on. This brings its own challenge of dealing with different formats and heterogeneous data. DataLift can consolidate, enrich, and allow the dynamic analysis of these varied data, whatever their size, format and origin, to produce new data with very high added value.
Gabriel Kepeklian, R&D Manager at Atos: «As the result of 3 years of Research & Development, DataLift has already attracted key entities whose main activity is based on the enhancement of heterogeneous and massive data from their ecosystem. The goal of industrialising and structuring the interconnecting process of a critical mass of data from different sources is now operational and accessible to all companies thanks to a modular solution, adaptable to the specific needs of each client. With more than 2,500 experts in Business Intelligence, Atos is one of the best placed digital service companies in the field of Big Data. DataLift adds new prospects into the Atos portfolio of Big Data offers in order to always respond better to the operational needs of our clients. »
In France, IGN, the National Institute of Geographic and Forest Information, INSEE, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies, and now the DILA, Management of Legal and Administrative Information, are the primary users of DataLift. Based on these internationally renowned references, DataLift is already in use in Italy and should attract other European countries**. The demonstrations in progress with potential users show interest in other sectors: Industry, Banking, Retail and also Health, Local Government, etc.
Thanks to DataLift, INSEE publishes census data of the French population, as well as geographical data and classifications.
Data.ign.fr is an experimental website of IGN for the dissemination of IGN data, carried out in the context of the DataLift collaborative project. The objective of this project is to develop a platform for the publication and interconnection of content according to the Linked data model (RDF, OWL, SPARQL formats). In this context, the IGN began the publication of useful vocabularies for the publication of georeferencing data. In addition, data.ign.fr should allow for the content issued within the framework of INSPIRE directive to be made available on the Web.
DataLift reduces heterogeneity by using vocabularies of metadata*, thereby favouring the crossings thanks to the queries made in a richer and more expressive language than that of the relational databases.
The DataLift offer, developed in open source, is modular and offers, for the users' choice, a catalogue of services associated with the platform: security, storage, etc., in SaaS mode with a Cloud deployment.
*Metadata (meta-data = data on the data) is the formalisation of a semantic content (or to simplify: the meaning) of the data itself. The data has a "semantic" in itself and the metadata does not add a "semantic" but it describes it.
** Gabriel Kepeklian will give a conference on this subject at the Fourth European Business Intelligence Summer School (eBISS 2014) to be held in Berlin from 6 to 11 July 2014.
