“Worldline wins the « 2014 PayForum Award » in the payment security category for its new NFC mobile payment solution using a digital wallet”

Worldline, Atos subsidiary in e-payment and transactional services, won the 2014 PayForum Award in the« Payment Security » category today at the PayForum Trade Fair in Paris for its new NFC mobile payment solution using a digital wallet relying on HCE (Host Card Emulation). HCE mode enables the storage of a user’s banking data in the "Cloud" as opposed to a Secure Element in the mobile phone (such as the SIM card). Worldline, a pioneer in this field, is one of the first companies to integrate these latest technological developments. This is Worldline’s contribution to the deployment of mobile applications that enable customers to make payments using their smartphones more easily and in a secure manner.

HCE (Host Card Emulation), available since end 2013 in Android 4.4, or "KitKat", offers to simplify the ecosystem of contactless NFC mobile applications by allowing a direct communication between the mobile application and the contactless reader infrastructure.

By adding HCE in its solutions, Worldline offers its clients simplification of the complex NFC business model and facilitates convergence of contactless proximity payments and Internet or mobile remote payments. Thanks to its complete range of innovative solutions Worldline maintains the level of security that credit card issuers expect:

  • A strong authentication service for secure user access and integrity of mobile payment applications and home banking.
  • A mobile payment wallet application with a user interface (one click payment, statement browsing, etc.)
  • A contactless payment function that is based on either a conventional SE and TSM (Trusted Service Manager) architecture, or on HCE (Host Card Emulation).

In this way the end user will be able to use his Wallet payment application for proximity payments as well as for remote purchases using the same interactive process.

Nicolas Kozakiewicz, Head of research & development at Worldline : « HCE is part of Worldline’s way of thinking to continuously develop innovation in payment. We are proud of this trophy that highlights our ability to adapt to the evolution of our ecosystem in order to enrich the user experience. We have contributed with our expertise in the payment sector for more than 40 years to combine security and simplicity in customers’ mobile browsing paths. »
