“Atos enters the Carbon Disclosure Project index, gaining recognition as a leader in carbon management.”

Paris, 29 November 2013

Today, Atos has been recognized by the CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project) for its climate performance. Atos proved itself to be one of the best companies in the field of sustainability performance, demonstrating the efficiency of its initiatives to move towards a “Zero Carbon” company. Two months after entering the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World, Atos again shows its commitment to place sustainability as a foundation of its business strategy. As such, decarbonizing our environment is part of the Atos company responsibility. In this respect, Atos has signed a partnership with EcoAct to offset its carbon emissions continuing to provide its clients with carbon neutral hosting services.

Atos recognized for the first time by the Carbon Disclosure Project as a leader in carbon performance

On Tuesday November 26th 2013 in Paris, during a ceremony hosted by Nyse Euronext, the CDP rewarded Atos for both scores: the CDLI (Climate Disclosure Leadership Index) with a score of 93% recognizing Atos for the high level of information transparency, and the CPLI (Climate Performance Leadership Index) raising Atos in the band A positioning the company among the top 10% leaders assessed.

Jean-Marie Simon, CEO of Atos France, received the two awards saying: “We are very proud to enter the indices of the CDP. For our company, this is the result of many initiatives to reduce our energy footprint, and  also reflects our investment in designing solutions enabling our customers to improve their own performance. A good example here is our management of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in the city, the traffic forecast or the real time energy supervision of Datacenters.”

Steven Tebbe, Managing Director of CDP Europe adds: “Today, I'm delighted to reward Atos, one of the best known international information technology services companies, for its leadership in climate change initiatives. The environmental impact of the IT sector globally is substantial. However, with its innovation capacity, it is also in a unique position to help decouple economic growth from emissions growth, for example by dematerializing our economy. The excellent scores that Atos has achieved this year demonstrate its strong commitment to tackle climate change through energy efficiency and carbon reduction initiatives. We look forward to seeing how Atos will lead the industry towards a low carbon future.”

Atos signed a new contract with EcoAct to continue delivering Carbon Neutral-hosted services to its clients

Since 2009, Atos has developed a global program tackling the issue of energy and carbon. Based on a range of projects encouraging best in class datacenters, smart working environments and innovative business solutions, Atos continues to reduce its emissions towards its objective to reduce the Atos global footprint by 50% over the period 2012-2015.

One of the iconic initiatives of this program is to provide carbon neutral-hosting services to clients. A pioneering ICT Company in carbon management, in 2010 Atos decided to offset the residual emissions of its datacenters by investing in a wind farm project in India. The partnership recently signed with EcoAct, a company specialized in carbon offsetting programs, allows Atos to select a project, respecting the highest standards of the market, and be validated and verified against the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), with a combination of environmental, social and economic benefits for local communities.

The project is composed of 67 wind turbines generators installed in two Indian states (Karnataka and Gujarat) generating renewable power that provides additional resources to the national grid equivalent to the electrification of 217,000 households in rural areas. Atos is offsetting around 80,000 TCO2 eq, therefore contributing to 90% of the total project's saved annual GHG emissions. For more information, please download the case study.

“On our journey to become a “Zero Carbon” company, the Atos approach supports our customers in their actions to reduce their footprint and create a more sustainable collaborative and adaptive organization at strategic and operational levels.  In this respect, we have developed a complete portfolio of sustainability offerings. Today we are very proud to be rewarded by the Carbon Disclosure Project and be recognized as a reference in the field of corporate responsibility”, says Philippe Mareine – EVP General Secretary at Atos in charge of Corporate and Social Responsibility.”
