“Atos is a major partner of the Austrian Olympic Committee ”
Vienna, 16 April 2013
Atos, a long-standing partner of the International Olympic Committee, has formalised its partnership with the Austrian Olympic Committee
Atos, an international IT services provider, and the Österreichisches Olympisches Comité officially confirmed their partnership. The partnership agreement was signed at an evening event at Vienna's Haus der Lotterien.
"We are proud to have Atos on board as another main sponsor for the Austrian Olympic team for Sochi 2014. The company is supporting not only the Austrian Olympic Committee but also each individual athlete on the team, which is an essential ingredient for success in top-level sport. Sponsorship is what enables the committee to give its athletes the best possible sustained support," explain Karl Stoss, President of the Austrian Olympic Committee, and Peter Mennel, Secretary General.
"At Atos, we take our social responsibility to Austrian sport very seriously. Through this partnership with the Austrian Olympic Committee, we are contributing to the optimum preparation of Austria's athletes," says Hanns-Thomas Kopf, CEO of Atos in Austria & CEE.
Atos holds the IT reins
In less than 300 days' time the Olympic flame will be lit at the Olympic Stadium in Sochi, signalling the start of an exciting phase for Atos. The IT service provider will integrate the activities of all technology partners and suppliers to deliver seamless, reliable IT infrastructure and services - offering direct communication for athletes, spectators, organisers and officials, the media, television viewers and Internet users on every continent.
"Few IT projects pose such challenges to an IT provider: setting up an IT infrastructure on such an ambitious scale in completely unfamiliar terrain every two years under the critical gaze of the whole world. But we relish a challenge, and we're looking forward to it," says Hanns-Thomas Kopf, CEO of Atos Austria & CEE.
It's not just the athletes who are preparing hard in the run-up to the Olympic Games. The 'Olympic Games' team at Atos started its preparations back in 2010. Between June 2010 and May 2012, the team was based in Moscow before moving to Sochi to continue the countless tests that are required for an event of this magnitude.
The Austrian Olympic Committee expects to send between 100 and 140 athletes to Sochi. The Austrian men's ice hockey team has already secured its ticket. The general qualification period concludes at the end of January 2014.
