“Experton Cloud Vendor Benchmark awards Atos top ranking for Cloud Services”

Paris / Munich, 11, June 2012

Atos is ranked number one in “Cloud Consulting” and one of the leading providers in four other categories Atos, an international IT services provider, was awarded top ratings in a total of five categories in the Cloud Vendor Benchmark, the Experton Group's latest analysis of the German cloud market. Atos captured the top spot for “Cloud Consulting” and was named one of the leading companies in “Managed Cloud”, “Managed Private Cloud”, “Cloud Integration” and “Cloud Services for Large Enterprises”.

These top rankings in the Group's largest market – Germany - confirm the company's leading position in the growing market of cloud computing. Atos recently announced the creation of Canopy, a one-stop shop for cloud services, which EMC and VMware intend to invest as part of the strategic alliance, also announced in February this year.

The cloud computing market is very dynamic. In the past three years, the Experton Group has noted a ten-fold increase in the number of vendors of cloud products and services and estimates the number of players in the German market at around 350.

“We expect to see revenues from cloud technologies, services and consulting grow sharply in the next two to five years, as well as a wave of consolidation among vendors,” says Steve Janata, Senior Advisor at Experton Group AG. “In the long term, there will only be a maximum of five to ten profitable providers in each application category, in particular for cloud services.”

“Cloud is a core offering for Atos and we welcome this positive endorsement of our services from leading market analyst,” says Eric Grall, EVP Managed Services at Atos. “Our Cloud services help our clients to capture the business and financial benefits of the cloud while delivering high level of availability and security.”

Pole position in cloud consulting
Atos captured first place in the “Cloud Consulting” category in the latest Cloud Vendor Benchmark study. Key assessment criteria included experience in cloud projects, the number of consultants and their qualifications, and independent consulting. “Technology vendors with their own products and platforms have their difficulties to ensure a completely neutral analysis and evaluation in the interest of the customer,” says Steve Janata. As a product-independent service provider, Atos has a better starting position. “At present, Atos has the most attractive offering in the market to cover these requirements. While Atos' offering and know-how has a focus on the technology side, the vendor is better able than its competitors to also address other management disciplines to round off its offering.”

Top grades in four other categories:
In the “Managed Cloud” category, the Experton Group includes all services supervised by a service provider in a non-exclusive infrastructure. “During the last 12 months, Atos has evolved into one of the key managed cloud players with numerous strategic and product initiatives,” states Steve Janata. “The integration of Siemens Information Services has a positive impact on the company's market presence and competitiveness in Germany. Also Atos has created ‘Canopy' – a one-stop shop for cloud services , which is starting to take shape.”

By “Managed Private Cloud”, the Experton Group means services that are supervised and delivered by a provider in an exclusive environment. Traditional outsourcers and managed service providers often operate in this market. “Companies like Atos benefit from the highly standardized and integrated cloud technology stacks from the various vendors,” adds Steve Janata. In terms of sales, Atos is one of the top 3 companies in Europe and among the top 6 worldwide in the “Managed Services” segment – 27,500 employees generate annual revenue of some four billion euros in 48 countries.

According to the Cloud Vendor Benchmark 2012, “Cloud Integration” is one of the strongest growing market segments at present. To be competitive in this market, a company must have broad technological know-how, as well as a suitably large number of young and agile developers and administrators who are familiar with the platforms and interfaces available on the market. Atos was given a top ranking in this category, among other things thanks to its detailed knowledge of the various cloud architectures, security expertise and experience in large IT integration projects. For instance, Atos has been responsible for integrating the IT for the Olympic and Paralympic Games as a partner of the International Olympic Committee since 2002.

Atos also clinched a top spot in the “Cloud Services for Large Enterprises” category. The possible application scenarios for cloud services at these organizations are diverse and wide-ranging and the requirements are also greater than at small and medium-sized businesses. This is a particular challenge as regards a cloud service provider's expertise and experience.
