Two new Olympic Games: The Sochi Olympic Winter Games in 2014 and the Summer Olympic Games in 2016
Atos Origin, the Worldwide Information Technology Partner and Top Partner of the Olympic Games, today announced that it has extended its contract with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to serve as the IT systems integrator for the Games for an additional four-year period, until 2016. After Vancouver in 2010 and London in 2012, Atos Origin will provide IT systems for the Sochi Olympic Winter Games in 2014 in Russia and the Olympic Games in 2016, the host country of which will be announced on 2 October 2009.
"Atos Origin, our long-term partner, is the brains behind the technology operations for the Olympic Games, consistently delivering high-quality services on schedule. The Beijing Olympic Games were spectacular and Atos Origin provided a crucial role in ensuring the success of the event from a technological perspective, and in making sure that the IT systems functioned perfectly. We are confident that Atos Origin will once again deliver an outstanding job for future Games”, said Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee.
"We are particularly proud of our long-term partnership with the International Olympic Committee - a relationship based on enduring trust. As part of our mission for the Olympic Games, we are committed to delivering excellence and will continue to further improve our service from one Olympiad to the next. Managing this highly complex project and co-ordinating all the necessary cutting-edge technologies requires exceptional expertise to combine processes, technologies and the skills of both our staff and of other partners", said Thierry Breton, Chairman and CEO of Atos Origin.
This agreement extends for a period of four more years the largest sports related information technology contract ever awarded, and strengthens a partnership of more than 20 years between the Olympic Movement and Atos Origin. This partnership is based on trust, technological know-how and expertise.
Atos Origin integrates, manages and secures the vast IT system that relays competition results and information about athletes in less than 0.3 seconds to spectators and media around the world. This project is one of the most mission critical IT projects in terms of data security, fixed budgets and an unmovable deadline.
Following each Game, Atos Origin documents the best practices used in previous games, ensuring that expertise, processes, technologies and people are transferred from one Olympiad to the next. Thanks to the experience that the IT team has acquired, together with its high levels of professionalism and expertise, it is ideally placed to deal with the complexity of such a large-scale project. All of this experience is then shared with Atos Origin's other clients across all business sectors.
