“Lutèce d’Or Award for www.meteofrance.com website”

Paris, 26 September 2008

French national weather service Météo-France has received a Lutèce d'Or gold trophy for its revamped http://www.meteofrance.com/ site, developed with Atos Origin. The prize was awarded at a ceremony on September 24 by the Fédération Nationale des Industries du Logiciel Libre, the French open source industry association, for “Best 2008 Open Source Project by a Public Sector Organization.”

The successful award reflects the close collaboration between Météo-France teams and specialists at Atos Worldline, the Atos Origin subsidiary that was selected to develop and host all of Météo-France's Web-based and mobile services. The trophy also rewards the project's commitment to using only open source software and technologies, notably the Lutèce portal that served as the development platform and MySQL solutions for the database server. Apache is used as the HTTP server and for cache management and Linux for the server operating system.

The new site went live on August 28, enabling Météo-France to offer a rich array of weather services for visitors. Free seven-day forecasts are now available for all of France, along with three-day local forecasts. Weather alerts with maps and bulletins have been given a higher profile. Other new free services include a subscription to weekend forecasts.

“We're delighted to have received this award a month after the launch of our new site,” said Météo-France Sales Director Michel Assouline. “The Lutèce d'Or gold trophy recognizes the considerable efforts that have gone into enhancing the visitor experience on our consumer site, thanks to much enriched content and broader range of free services. The section of the site for professionals will also get a complete makeover by the end of the year. Our goal is to make detailed meteorological information available to everyone, whenever they need it.”
