“Gefco Commissions Atos Origin to Support New Logistics Information System”

Paris - January 27, 2003

Gefco, the transportation arm of the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group, has commissioned Atos Origin to support deployment of its new Nostra logistics information system. The new application is being introduced for Gefco's Automotive Division to help manage vehicle transportation, distribution and preparation across France and a number of leading European markets.

The Nostra vehicle transportation management system

Nostra, Gefco's new, highly ambitious information system concerns several hundred users throughout France as well as in other European countries, such as the Netherlands, the UK, Portugal and Spain. Leveraging a sophisticated optical flashing system, Nostra can schedule and track transportation, warehouse and dealer prep services for each vehicle, from factory rollout to customer delivery. It also continuously recalculates delivery times, allowing for specific events, manages the full range of dealer prep operations as well as pre-dealer storage, and accommodates road, rail and sea transportation.

After choosing its strategic and technical options using the Obbisoft software, Gefco commissioned Atos Origin to design, build and implement the related change support and staff training program.

Gefco and Atos Origin partner again

Introducing a business application like Nostra has far-reaching consequences within a company, with changes concerning the application itself, but also business fundamentals, and the organization of tasks and processes. Recognizing the challenges involved, Atos Origin delivered the solutions required to allow Nostra users to adjust quickly and effectively. In particular, Atos Origin developed educational materials enabling users to easily transition to the application and integrate it into their operating processes, as well as the tools they need to be fully independent at their workstations. In the initial phase, Gefco and Atos Origin, who renewed their partnership following completion of a similar project (1) , formed joint multidisciplinary teams pooling complementary skills to implement the support project. Atos Origin's trainers, consultants and writer/designers then focused on the content of the courses and user manuals, before jointly producing the teaching tools required for the training programs. In the final phase, facilitators led the sessions concerning the modules defined through this process.

Fast ramp-up

Atos Origin contributed substantially to improving the quality of Gefco's customer service by uniformly deploying the training programs for a variety of user profiles in 70 Gefco centers across Europe. Gefco can now effectively manage its operating and maintenance costs, enhance communication flows among participants, and successfully integrate the new logistics system.

Launched in late 2001 with the automotive data repositories, the project is continuing with implementation of the main functionalities for distribution, preparation and transportation, as well as for managing the centers' operations. Completion is scheduled for February 2004, this time integrating transportation taxation and billing principles.
