“The Atos Origin Worldline Pay Internet Payment System Version 1.5 – available from November”

Stuttgart, November 5, 2002

Atos Origin integrates the credit card security standards 3D Secure and Spa /Ucaf, POS links via the Internet , Paybox, Micromoney and Paysafecard processing.

At the beginning of November, Atos Origin, the IT and e-business services provider, brings out a new release of its Internet Payment System, Worldline Pay IPS, already market leader in Germany. The considerable functional scope of Worldline Pay IPS has been extensively expanded, integrating the credit card security standards of VISA and Eurocard/MasterCard to combat credit card fraud in the Internet ahead of the 2005 deadline, after which the standards will be compulsory. Reiner Wergen, Worldline Pay Product Manager at Atos Origin says "Our customers are waiting expectantly for the introduction of the Spa/Ucaf and 3D Secure, they are important milestones for security in Internet payments, necessary to win the trust of the consumer."

Atos Origin is also using the 3D Secure and Spa/Ucaf protocol for its newly developed POS payment processing using the Internet. International commercial enterprises and POS service providers can forward their world-wide turnover directly to a central processing location via the Internet, using their POS terminal, where further processing takes place. In this way, head office has a precise up-to-date overview of the complete business both nationally and internationally. As a result, stock control systems can be efficiently implemented and transaction processing costs for international network operators are saved. The acquisition of POS terminals with PIN pads that fulfil the various requirements in each country is no longer necessary. They are replaced by magnetic stripe readers at the POS terminal. All payment methods - with the exception of payments with PIN numbers - can be accepted using this procedure.

In addition, using Worldline Pay IPS 1.5, merchants are able to offer customers three new payment methods. One such method is Paybox, which uses the customer's mobile telephone to verify his identity. At the time of payment the customer gives his Paybox customer number or his mobile number, he is called back and authenticated using a Paybox PIN. In addition, both prepaid payment methods in the Internet, Micromoney from DeTeCard Service and the PaySafeCard, are also integrated into the new release of Worldline Pay IPS.

Using the new Mobile Secure Payment method, providers can also offer additional security in the Internet to those registered regular customers who have already agreed the method of payment. In addition to entry of a password in the registration mask, the unique customer identification takes place via the mobile phone: Worldline Pay IPS generates a so-called soft token during the payment process, this has a transaction number (TAN), which is sent to the customer per SMS and then entered by him in the HTML mask at the time of payment. The TAN is only valid for one Internet session.
