“Atos Origin launches a new multi-channel unified messaging service DCN selects Atos Origin to overhaul its messaging service”

Paris, 31 October 2002

A demonstration of the unified messaging service offer is presented at the Networld+Interop tradeshow

Atos Origin launches a new unified messaging service offering companies a messaging service that can be consulted from all transmitting and reception channels on the market: computer (traditional email), fixed or cellular telephone (vocal, SMS, Wap), PDA, fax, and Minitel.

In order to improve their reactivity, more and more companies want to provide their employees or clients with messaging tools that are quick, easily accessible and adapted to their mobility. Atos Origin proposes a new multi-channel unified messaging solution to meet this need.

This messaging system goes beyond traditional email functionalities, by allowing a centralized consultation of messages received through all distribution channels. Through Internet or a messaging service client, unified messaging service users may consult their emails or any other message format, such as voice, fax, or SMS. Conversely, this system allows them to send emails, faxes, or SMS through a single channel. These operations may be carried out from any connected computer, by fixed or cellular telephone (voice synthesis, SMS alert), using a WAP telephone, PDA, minitel or even a fax.

This unified messaging system: in-house or externalized

Atos Origin offers companies the opportunity to either externalize their entire unified messaging system, or to add multi-channel functions to the client's messaging service, while keeping it hosted in-house. If the externalized method is chosen, Atos Origin hosts the unified messaging service on its Multimedia platform, and manages the multi-channel access, operations and the upgrades and corrective maintenance by the technical department.
For companies that keep their messaging service in-house, Atos Origin integrates its messaging service system into the company's computer system (databases, client repositories, intranet, etc.) and enriches it with collaborative work tools, such as shared agendas, access to forums, document sharing, SMS alerts (for appointments), company directories, etc.

Technical architecture:

  • ASP messaging service
  • Multi-channel options: Voice mail, Wap mail, Minitel, PDA, Fax, SMS, etc.
  • Hosting on Atos Origin Multimedia platform
  • Secured system, network and applications: back-up, anti-virus

Contract with DCN

This messaging system is already operational. Recent contracts include the one signed with DCN: National Department for shipbuilding, under the authority of the Defense Ministry. DCN asked Atos Origin to overhaul its electronic messaging system, in anticipation of 3,000 employee mailboxes.
Atos Origin is taking on the administration and hosting of this messaging service, accessible via the Web. The Webmail site and Web manager of DCN's messaging service are SSL-secured.
