“Atos Origin Chosen by Société Générale to Integrate Messalia, a Cellphone Text Message Service to Facilitate Account Management”

Paris, January 22, 2001

The multi-operator service is accessible from all cellphones

Société Générale has selected Atos Origin to design, build and run Messalia, its cellphone-based short message service (SMS). As the first French bank to offer SMS services, Société Générale has taken the initiative in personalizing relationships with its retail customers. The agreement also testifies to Atos Origin's proven ability to provide clients with vital "customer relationship management" support, notably through online services.

To develop the new cellphone message service, which enhances Société Générale's multi-channel service portfolio, Atos Origin devised an SMS solution that leveraged its:

  • Industrial-scale multimedia platform
  • Capacity for handling high volume messaging.
  • Interface with France's three mobile phone networks: Itineris, SFR and Bouygues Télécom.

With Messalia, which will be targeted at young people, customers will be able to receive text messages concerning such account data as :

  • Available balance.
  • Largest deposits and withdrawals over the past seven days.
  • Bank card outstandings.
  • Delivery of new check books
  • Recent marketing and sales promotions.
  • Users choose when and how often they want to be notified, either daily or weekly, and set their own alert thresholds.

To deliver short messages on a large scale from its Multimedia platform, Atos Origin has interfaced with the SMS centers of France's three cellphone service operators. In addition to managing these links, Atos Origin is also deploying its demonstrated capabilities in sequencing messages according to user profiles.
