“Atos Builds New Voice Recognition Service for Fimatex”
PARIS, FRANCE - May 10, 2000
Atos, a leading European IT services provider, announced today that it has enhanced its Interactive Voice Response (IVR) platform and built Europe's first voice recognition-based online securities trading service for French e-broker Fimatex.
The speech recognition technology, developed by Atos in association with Philips, lets clients dialogue naturally with an IVR server, without using the telephone keypad. This delivers a number of important advantages:
- Users can ask spoken questions, such as "How's the NASDAQ doing?"
- The interface can be used by anyone, without training or special skills.
- It can be used anywhere, even in a noisy environment.
The service uses natural speech as default. It may be used by beginners or experienced users, and from a wired or GSM mobile phone. The recognition system can identify more than 1,000 words and understands all regional French accents. It adapts to what the user actually says and when necessary, asks questions to fulfil a request or initiate an action.
Buying stock on your cellphone
The Fimatel voice recognition system created for Fimatex understands and responds to natural speech requests, such as "I want to buy 100 shares of Fimatex at 30 euros." It recognizes all of the key words in the stock market vocabulary (buy, sell, limit, at market, etc.), as well the names of all French stocks, mutual funds and market indices. It can also identify a security without knowing its SICOVAM clearing code.
As designed and developed by Atos, the service allows clients to view account statements, track prices in real time and trade by phone. Another application lets users interrupt an action underway at any time and shift to another order, thereby saving precious minutes.
With more than one million trades executed in first-quarter 2000 (as many as in all of 1999) and 56,994 accounts opened as of March 31, Société Générale's Fimatex subsidiary is the leading online broker in France and a major market challenger in Germany. It offers brokerage services on seven exchanges in Europe (Paris, London, Frankfurt, Zurich, Milan, Amsterdam and Madrid) and two in the United States (NASDAQ and the NYSE). It employs more than 220 employees in France, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Italy and Japan. The company's shares have been traded on the Paris Nouveau Market (Sicovam code 7522) since March 21, 2000.
