5 Ways OneCloud will help the UK economy Build Back Digital
Clay Van Doren is Chief Executive Officer, Atos UK&I and Northern Europe
If the difficult days of 2020 and 2021 have taught us anything it is of the extent to which digital tech solutions have kept us connected with friends and family, ensured we are able to continue working seamlessly yet socially distanced and have generally delivered for us in ways that perhaps none of us could have quite anticipated at the outset of Covid-19.
So we need to keep on the digital track, as if we look at some of the big economic and environmental challenges of the future, it is digital that will continue to deliver. I’m very clear that a digital recovery will be a decarbonised recovery and we should be constantly searching for new solutions that not only increase productivity and growth but do so in a way that reduces the burden we place on our natural resources.
One of these smart, decarbonised technologies is cloud. Cloud is increasingly a critical enabler for organisations of all kinds to accelerate their digital transformation journey and facilitate new ways of thinking and working. In this blog, I highlight five things you should know about Atos OneCloud – our €2bn, 5-year investment in the future of cloud, a technology we feel will play a vital role in helping the UK build back digital from the pandemic.
Atos OneCloud is completely flexible to the needs of businesses of all sizes, in any sector: from large companies to SMEs
We have designed this programme to be a catalyst for business growth. Its modular nature means it can be scaled up or down for businesses of any size, in any sector making it highly accessible throughout the UK, including to the businesses in the engine room of the economy, our fantastic SMEs.
As our economy builds back from the pandemic in an even more digitised way, it is initiatives such as OneCloud that will help assist the modernisation of UK businesses, enabling them to be agile, rooted in analytics and thrive in this digital-first environment.
This is a major investment in digital skills and graduate jobs, ensuring access to the best cloud expertise now and in the future
Crucial to how we build back digital will be equipping workers with the skills for this new economy. OneCloud is the latest step in Atos’ investment in digital skills, leveraging the expertise of Atos specialists worldwide, including in the UK, one of our largest country bases with nearly 10,000 employees, to offer industry-leading cloud training and technical certifications.
This work is underpinned by our investment in the next generation of tech experts through our Atos IGNITE graduate programme, providing STEM subject graduates with structured training, project assignments and real-world client engagements.
We are leveraging the power of 5G to produce results, fast
Atos OneCloud is a ground-breaking initiative made possible by our cutting-edge tech: the enhanced speed and connectivity enabled by the 5G revolution is used to power secure and local processing, optimised bandwidth consumption, and Cloud Edge and Far Edge server solutions.
This level of innovation runs throughout the OneCloud programme: from our high processing capacity bare metal servers to our use of Cloud AI and Machine Learning to enhance business processes.
Atos OneCloud reduces carbon footprint year-on-year, delivering on the goal of net zero
Building back digital means decarbonising the economy. The UK Government has set itself ambitious targets for achieving net zero, and as we gear up to host COP26 this November, Atos wants to continue to play a key role in enabling UK business to deliver on their net zero commitments, with OneCloud as a core component. As a business we have set the benchmark by committing to net zero by 2028 and our industry leading credentials are reflected by our consecutive #1 placing within our sector in the Global Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
More cloud equals more decarbonisation, and we guarantee customers a year-on-year carbon footprint reduction of Cloud infrastructure, data and applications – so these benefits will be felt over a timeframe long enough to achieve real change.
Our world-class cybersecurity ensures data is always safe and secure
In this increasingly digitised economy – and particularly as the world of work has moved online throughout the pandemic – cyber security has never been more intrinsic to business success.
This is as true for SMEs as it is for the largest corporates. Drawing directly on Atos’ global force of experts and world-leading cyber security capabilities, OneCloud helps deliver best-in-class cyber and data security, encryption and access management to ensure businesses use the Cloud securely. Building back digital can only be done with a premium on safety, as the European #1 in the field, Atos takes this as read.
The past 12 months have been trying for our economy and society. However, with the UK’s roadmap to recovery becoming clearer with the encouraging signs offered by vaccination, we can see a positive future with increased use of technology at its heart. It is innovation like OneCloud that will also help the economy not only build back better from the pandemic, but build back digital in a decarbonised, secure and skills-led way.
