3 top universities reach the finals of the Atos IT Challenge 2020 on ‘Cooperative Artificial Intelligence”

Paris, June 11, 2020

Atos reveals the 3 finalists of the Atos IT Challenge, an international student technology competition now in its ninth year. This year’s edition is focused on Cooperative Artificial Intelligence, with no less than 100 student teams from 27 countries around the globe having submitted their ideas.

The jury, composed of renowned experts and Atos top executives[1], has selected the following three projects, presented here in alphabetical order:

“CTC – Cooperative Traffic Control” from Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek (Croatia) – an innovative solution to improve traffic.
“Digital Water: Artificial Intelligence at home” from Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores Monterrey (Mexico) – an innovative solution to deliver water consumption solutions to households and to the water supply company.
“PestKillerBot” from Asia Pacific University (Malaysia) – an innovative solution which eliminates the pest in floricultural fields through the use of drones performing pest control and data collection.

The winners will be announced on July 8 during the Awards Ceremony which will take place during the digital Atos Technology Days. The winning team and runners up will receive cash prizes – €10,000, €5,000, and €3,000 respectively – to help bring their app to market, along with support from numerous Atos top executives. All participants in the IT Challenge will be invited to apply for an internship to work as part of the Atos organization.

This year, the jury will also award a special prize to an entry that particularly stands out for the significance of the topic tackled and the dedication of the team.

Commenting on these results, Sophie Proust, Group Chief Technical Officer, Atos said: “It’s a great experience to be part of the IT Challenge jury once again this year, in a special context where the 16 shortlisted teams have worked remotely and virtually among themselves. We could, nevertheless, feel the energy, the creativity and the good technical solutions proposed by the teams. This year’s topic, which is a difficult and new one, cooperative artificial intelligence, has been very well addressed by the teams, bringing new ways to tackle concrete use cases. On behalf of the Atos IT Challenge jury, I do congratulate the 3 finalist teams for their brilliant ideas and innovative projects, and I warmly thank all the other participating teams for their remarkable submissions.”
