Blue Yonder and Atos expose MBA students to the power of data analytics

Award-winning predictive analytics provider, Blue Yonder, and Atos, a leader in digital services, have partnered with London Business School (LBS) to create a unique event for MBA students to explore the power of data analytics to solve a range of business and public sector challenges. The event will demonstrate that technology and data analytics has moved from the IT department to the heart of business.

MBA students were introduced to the opportunities and challenges of collecting and analysing data for the benefit of business, at an event in Atos’s Business Technology Innovation Centre in London. Following a presentation of analytics business scenarios by Atos, students were able to hear from industry experts who had used data analytics to effectively improve their business outcomes, before coming back in two weeks’ time to present their own solutions to a panel of experts. On the panel were Rakesh Harji, MD, Blue Yonder and Christian Benson, Head of Analytics, from Atos.

Gah-Yi Vahn, Assistant Professor of Management Science and Operations, London Business School, who chaired the event, commented: “Big Data is an elusive buzzword everyone is talking about, and I am very pleased to have clarified what it means by introducing the students to successful business cases Blue Yonder and Atos have worked on.

“Existing analytics technology (both hard and soft) is already quite sophisticated and is waiting to be tapped by the right people who can identify the right business problems to apply it to. As using Big Data correctly can generate so much value, increased use of analytics technology in organisations is an inevitable trend. We added this course to the MBA program because future executives need to understand how Big Data analytics can affect decision-making and strategy to lead companies.”

Discussion groups and roundtables at the event were chaired by Blue Yonder and Atos to allow students to think for themselves about how they could apply data analytics to a range of real-world business issues.

Christian Benson, Head of Analytics, from Atos, said: “The students were given a high level overview of the complex world of data analytics and how it can be applied to make a real difference to some of the key challenges facing communities locally and across the globe. Data and analytics will play a larger than ever role in the 21st century; particularly in the way businesses or organisations compete with each other or improve cost efficiency. It has been a great experience to see budding business leaders from London Business School actively participate in building business cases for the science of data analytics.”

Rakesh Harji, MD, Blue Yonder, said: “Educating our future business leaders on how they can apply data science to their strategy is incredibly important in a competitive global economy. Analytics technologies can make a fundamental impact on the business landscape by weeding out inefficiencies, optimising workforces, reducing waste and enhancing the customer experience. The MBA student teams were very innovative in their application of Blue Yonder’s technology and successfully highlighted the broad value it can bring to business.”
