International IT services company, Atos, has boosted its team in the north of Scotland by adding 28 new business technologist apprentices at its Development and Innovation Centre in Forres.

The apprentices will operate across the company’s range of client business from the Forres base delivering world-class IT services on behalf of organisations in local and central government, health, energy and transport sectors.

The Atos Apprenticeship Scheme was first introduced in 2012 in response to what was seen as a large ICT talent gap amongst young people. The programme allows those involved to build a career in IT through formal training and development programmes and a number of recognised qualifications through QA. Twenty four of the apprentices will also be fast-tracked through a twelve-week Cyber Security Academy which is accredited by the University of Derby.

Owen O’Donohue, Head of the Atos Moray Development and Innovation Centre in Forres said the apprentices were already making a positive contribution to the business.

“They are bright and motivated young people and are already adding a different viewpoint to the way we support our clients in the delivery of information security, information management and analytics, software development and testing here in Forres,” he added.

“Application modernisation, secure cloud computing and shared services have become pivotal tools across most business sectors and therefore the young people we employ on the Atos Apprenticeship Scheme will have the opportunity to build a really good career in an area where we are committed to growing our business for many years to come.”

Atos has been working in the Highlands region for four years. The company, which employs over 1500 people across Scotland, was an Official Supporter of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and provided essential games management and games information systems for what was seen as one of the most successful Games in the history of the event.

The Atos Apprenticeship programme has been widely recognised for its quality.   The company was declared one of the City & Guilds Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers in 2013, was regional Winner of the Employer of the Year in 2013’s National Apprenticeship Awards, and was also the winner of Scotland’s Best Newcomer Employer for Apprenticeships in 2012.
