Atos and Commonwealth Games mascot, Clyde, visit pupils at Duddingston primary school

A team from international IT services company, Atos, has introduced pupils from Duddingston Primary School in Edinburgh to the official Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games mascot, Clyde, as part of their programme to highlight the way in which their technology will support the delivery of a successful Games.

The business technologists and Clyde met with over 400 pupils as part of an ongoing collaboration with the school in the run up to the Games. This follows a visit to the school by Glasgow 2014 Atos ambassador and Scottish tri-athlete, Marc Austin.

The pupils enjoyed an interactive session with Clyde where they were able to sample the 17 sports taking place at the up and coming Games.

Atos is a Proud Supporter of Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games providing essential Games Management Systems and Games Information Systems to help run a successful Games.

Karen Morris, Head Teacher at Duddingston Primary School said: “The pupils were over the moon that Atos and Clyde visited the school. They had great fun trying out the different sports that we will all enjoy watching during the Games. We hope this will encourage the children to try different types of sport in the future and will also serve to boost their interest in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.”

Gavin Thomson, Atos Senior Vice President in Scotland, said: “Atos has a very active schools and corporate social responsibility programme in Scotland. This event at Duddingston Primary School shows our continued commitment to demonstrating the importance of IT in supporting the Games.

“By undertaking these school visits we hope to encourage young people to get more involved in this year’s Games and to inform them of the important role IT plays in major sporting events like the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.”

Atos will bring its extensive experience to the Games which will see 6,500 athletes from 71 nations and territories compete in 17 sports over 11 days, from 23 July – 3 August 2014.
