The Automation concept has been used for quite some time, but it is only recently that the means to combine it with data driven predictive and prescriptive insights became possible. This gives rise to a whole new era of intelligent systems that will perform increasingly complex tasks previously limited to humans.

These intelligent systems will enable new concepts – like Interactive Dynamic Media, Augmented Interactive Reality and Wearables.

These will go far beyond the individual: they will also drastically alter the way that organizations work and businesses interact on a global scale. A new level of operational agility will be demanded, a significant enabler of which will be DevOps within large organizations.

Automation, communities and digital leadership are radically reshaping the work landscape.

& dynamic media

The ways in which we consume and interact with content are evolving towards more immersive, interactive and social experiences.

Game-like narrative experiences with shared, collective experiences will be an important part of the media landscape by 2020.

Traditionally media has been based on linear narratives but now personalised experiences can be offered using interactivity, context and user behaviour.

This allows narratives to evolve and change in response to implicit or explicit real-time feedback, social network analytics and changing context which can even include user biometric information via wearables.

The scope may go well beyond gaming in terms of the type of content, type of feedback and information influencing how the content is created or adapted. Our vision for 2020 is of a converged entertainment industry where games can also be narrative, and narratives can also be interactive and dynamic.

The introduction of dynamic, interactive content allows people to feel more engaged and creates a much more personalized experience. Associated with these personal experiences are, of course, the enhanced possibilities for monetization.

Interactive Reality

We are about to widely adopt technologies that seamlessly integrate the digital world into our own personal field of view, allowing us to access and interact with information in the field of view beyond what we naturally observe.

We expect AIR to play a key role in realizing digital transformations across the entire value chain.

Augmented Interactive Reality or AIR is Atos’ response to this emerging trend. It provides a bi-directional bridge between the digital world of data and the physical workspace.

Based on context and recognized objects in the physical environment further information are retrieved from digital data nodes and augmented into the users view in real time – either as mixed or augmented reality in 2D or 3D.

By this the users get a disruptively new perception of digital content very much adapted to the natural user experience. Instead of reading PDF manuals, 3D digital models explain the maintenance of a machine.

Wearables

The term Wearable is used to describe items worn somewhere on or even within the body, which are capable of performing some type of computing.

By 2020, one-third of Internet users in developed countries will wear at least one wearable at all times.

Miniaturization and advanced power management has led to small powerful connected devices that detect the context a person is in and provide appropriate services for them.

Wearables will be one key contributor in the growth of the Internet of Things, enabling the collection of Smart Data. The huge 2 billion existing smartphones across the world will be the perfect Internet gateway for these devices.

Today’s wearables market is mainly focused on the consumer where the main participants are seeking to increase their customer base.

But we also observe huge deployments in business domains such as healthcare, retail, manufacturing, military and even sports.

Most of these B2B initiatives are based on the improvement in business performance by using wearables: smart glasses and bracelets for access management; smart clothes for safety; smart watches for business information and communication.
