After the Mediterranean Games, held in Bari in June 1997, staged the XIX World University Games in August of the same year, in Sicily. The athletes and team officials, representing 160 countries, took part in the various competitions between 20 and 31 August.

The Games, spread across three towns (Palermo, Catania and Messina), included ten sports: athletics, basketball, volleyball, fencing, football, gymnastics, swimming, diving, waterpolo and tennis.

The Systems

For the second time, Atos Origin was chosen to provide IT services to the University Games (after the 1991 Games in Sheffield). Specifically, we provided:

• The Accreditation system
• The VIP Management system (Protocol)
• The Accommodation Check In-Check Out System, to assist in the booking of hotel rooms.
