“Big Data: the challenge for companies and Atos’ response”

Atos, an international leader in digital services, sets out in Ascent Journey 2018, the impact the digital revolution will have on business between now and 2018. As partner at the Big Data Show and sponsor of the Innovation Trophy (10 and 11 March in Paris), Atos presents its response to the challenges of Big Data.

Ascent Journey 2018

In its report, Atos presents how the data life cycle is currently at the core of the digital transformation in companies and more generally in society. The way in which data is created, disseminated, analysed and processed represents both an opportunity and a challenge: Flexibility and Fragility.

Through Ascent Journey 2018, Atos shows how we are heading towards an increasingly connected world. By 2018, it is predicted that there will be 4.5 billion smartphones, 2.5 billion users on social networks and more than 25 billion connected objects. The Internet of Things and Big Data are new technological sectors which will have disruptive effects on business IT.

Big Data: the challenge for companies

The increasing strength of connected objects generates thousands of billions of pieces of information, which offers a real opportunity. To ensure the value of the data is realised, data flow must be analysed in an increasingly smart way, recovered, stored and protected.

"Big Data is the challenge for a company as a whole, across all business units and not solely for the IT department. Our mandate is clear: provide big data solutions tailored to each usage type (operational and functional departments) and to guarantee the availability of solutions ranging from infrastructure to software layers combining flexibility, security and service quality. The challenge is to ensure that users do not move to poorly managed "shadow IT [1]" alternatives and to random security," stated Arnaud Bertrand, Atos Senior Vice President for Big Data and member of the Atos scientific community.

Atos offers a complete response to these new challenges

Atos can provide complete solutions which bring together the company’s internal and external data, unstructured data, data from varied sources, while providing interpretation of data mining and analysis of correlated data. Its services include consulting, model design, solution integration based on its Bull technologies ranging from supercomputers to ultra-high performance servers and the development of customised software solutions and end-to-end management of security.

"Thanks to our expertise across the entire data processing chain, from collection to viewing, and through to management, archiving, securing, data analysis and retrieval, while improving the carbon footprint of this chain of information, we are ideally positioned to achieve our ambition to be a prominent player in the field of Big Data," concludes Jean-Marie Simon, CEO France & Executive Vice President at Atos.
