“Atos focuses its mainframe expertise in high-performance data center in Frankfurt”

Atos, an international leader in digital services, moves to a new high-performance data center in Frankfurt am Main to serve its European and US American mainframe customers. With a total computing power of over 50,000 MIPS the European Mainframe Hub (EMH) is among the largest mainframe data centers in Europe.

“Combining our international mainframe expertise in one location provides cost advantages for our customers,” says Winfried Holz, CEO of Atos in Germany. “We also underline our position as a leading European company that offers its clients long-term secure, fast and stable international data connections."

The EMH provides the latest generation of IBM mainframe processors for Atos customers. The data center thus enables standard and new innovative mainframe tasks such as data and transaction processing taking into account specific security guidelines, as required for example for Data Analytics. The dual data center consists of two independent and spatially separated locations. The data from the mainframe environment is mirrored across both data center locations. The datacenters of the EMH fulfill the international standards of Tier 3 of the Uptime Institute, which requires that both elements run parallel and serve as mutual backup data center (active-active approach). Some elements are even certified with Tier 4. The centers are also housed in special buildings with numerous dedicated security measures. The dual data centers meet, in addition to numerous other certifications, the certification according to ISO 27001 and PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) and is also compliant with the requirements of the German Federal Office for Information Security (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik).

Next to its central position within Germany, the location of Frankfurt am Main also offers the proximity to the international internet exchange DE-CIX, the world’s largest Internet node, which is located in Frankfurt as well. This offers best international network connectivity.

Atos is convinced that due to security, scalability and speed, the mainframe technology will maintain its important role in the processing of business-critical data in the future. With the expansion of the EMH Atos demonstrates that it will offer these services in the long term and align them according to current developments. The move of the EMH to Frankfurt is also a central component of the global Atos mainframe strategy: By bundling at competence centers customers should benefit from the latest technologies faster. The move also supports the Ambition 2016, which aims at expanding the leadership of Atos in the managed services sector.
