Atos Origin, an international IT services company, and Royal DSM N.V., the global life sciences and materials sciences company, have signed a new service agreement for the global delivery of hosting and technical application management services until the end of 2013. This agreement is an addition to the existing ‘SAP’ agreement and will provide DSM with a state-of-the-art hosting and data centre environment. The agreement strengthens the way to global collaboration and the creation of innovative applications and enables DSM to offer increased flexibility and considerable cost savings.
The agreement leverages a utility-based infrastructure which allows DSM to align services flexibly with its dynamic business demands. The new solution matches the available capacity with the exact demand and so avoids over-capacity. DSM uses a pool of resources - which are securely shared by various customers - and is charged for usage instead of paying a fixed amount. As a result, the solution uses less hardware and is more environmentally friendly, because it uses substantially less energy and requires less cooling. This approach builds on Atos Origin’s implementation of its new data centre strategy, which includes deploying greener data centre technologies.
The future-proof design caters for both the existing environment - such as DSM’s collaboration, Enterprise Content Management, and Document Management environment - and its WebShop and eBusiness domains. In addition, the design can be seamlessly integrated with new functionalities, such as utility-based computing and virtualisation. The solutions are based on contemporary business requirements and required service levels and use Atos Origin’s global sourcing centres.
In addition, DSM has selected Atos Origin as its application consultancy partner, meaning that Atos Origin will be the preferred partner for DSM to fulfil DSM resource requests for development and management activities in domains like ERP, ECM and Collaboration for applications based on technologies like SAP, Microsoft, Documentum and JAVA.
Aloys Kregting, Executive Vice President and CIO with DSM, explains: “Over the last six years, Atos Origin has proven to be a reliable SAP Hosting provider. With the new state-of-the-art hosting and data centre environment we continue to partner with Atos Origin because of their track record in these fields. This agreement enables us to offer increased flexibility and considerable cost savings. To emphasize the collaboration with Atos Origin we selected Atos Origin as our preferred application consultancy partner.”
Rob Pols, CEO at Atos Origin in the Netherlands, concludes: “This agreement emphasizes the long-term relationship between the two companies and underlines Atos Origin's position as one of DSM’s strategic IT services suppliers. Through this agreement, we can demonstrate our added value by increasing flexibility and considerable cost savings. We are proud that DSM has chosen us as their preferred application consultancy partner.”
